Plane Captain - F/A-18 Aircraft Maintenance
Amentum is seeking qualified individuals to fill the role of Plane Captain in support of U.S. Navy Aircraft maintenance operations at Naval Air Station (NAS) Oceana, Virginia.
Responsibilities:
- Direct incoming and outgoing F/A-18 aircraft near the terminal or flight line parking area, using hand or light signals, to assist with pilot maneuvering.
- Secure aircraft in parking position using chocks and tie-downs.
- Perform aircraft flight line servicing, including refueling, oil replenishment, pre-flight through post-flight maintenance inspections, and recording maintenance records.
- Operate ground support equipment such as electrical power supply, tow tractors, and engine starting units.
- Conduct routine aircraft inspections, including tire pressure and condition checks.
- Assist in towing aircraft.
- Maintain aircraft cleanliness, both interior and exterior, including hangar deck periodic housekeeping and fluid spill cleanup.
Qualifications:
Minimum Requirements:
- High School diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum two (2) years of recent, demonstrable experience in aircraft maintenance.
- Valid Virginia or North Carolina driver's license (North Carolina residents only).
- Demonstrated knowledge and proficient use of specialized tools and equipment required for aircraft maintenance tasks.
- Ability to read and interpret technical publications, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Strong self-motivation and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to meet physical requirements associated with the position, including standing, climbing, bending, and stooping.
- Must successfully pass a seven-year background check and obtain a Security Clearance for Public Trust.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. U.S. Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this location.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Prior experience as an F/A-18 Plane Captain, Brake Rider, or Move Director.
- Completion of military aviation maintenance training, maintenance technical school curriculum, or possession of an FAA-issued A&P license.
- Prior experience with U.S. Navy aviation maintenance on F/A-18 aircraft.
Working Conditions:
- Rotating shifts are required, including travel for detachments.
- Work is primarily performed outdoors under all types of weather conditions, with exposure to loud noise and exhaust fumes.
Security Clearance:
- Must be able to pass and maintain a U.S. Government background security check, including favorable fingerprints in EQIP.
- May be required to complete an SF-85/86 in EQIP as required to maintain possession of a Common Access Card (CAC).
- An unfavorable background check may result in termination if determined that you are not eligible for a CAC card.
