Plane Captain - F/A-18
Amentum is seeking highly motivated and experienced individuals to join our team as Plane Captains in support of U.S. Navy Aircraft maintenance operations at NAS Oceana, VA. The Plane Captain will play a crucial role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of F/A-18 aircraft.
Responsibilities:
- Direct incoming and outgoing aircraft near terminal or flight line parking areas, assisting pilots in maneuvering aircraft on the ground using hand or light signals.
- Secure aircraft in parking position using chocks and tie-downs.
- Perform aircraft flight line servicing, operating service vehicles to replenish fuel and oil.
- Conduct pre-flight through post-flight maintenance inspections.
- Maintain accurate records of all servicing performed.
- Operate ground support equipment such as electrical power supply, tow tractors, and engine starting units.
- Examine tires for specified air pressure and condition.
- Assist in towing aircraft.
- Clean exterior and interior of aircraft, including hangar deck periodic housekeeping and fluid spills using various tools and equipment.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum two (2) years of recent and relevant organizational level aircraft maintenance experience.
- Valid Virginia or North Carolina Driver's license (if North Carolina resident).
- Knowledge and use of special tools/equipment required for assigned maintenance tasks.
- Ability to read and interpret technical publications, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
- Must be able to meet the physical requirements associated with and/or pass any medical examination requirements related to performing daily assigned tasks, which may include standing, climbing, bending, and stooping for extended periods.
- Ability to pass and maintain a U.S. Government background security check, including favorable fingerprints in EQIP.
- Ability to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization (US Citizenship is required).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience as an F/A-18 Plane Captain, Brake Rider, or Move Director.
- Completion of military aviation maintenance training or maintenance technical school curriculum, or possession of an FAA issued A&P license.
- Prior experience with U.S. Navy aviation, specifically on F/A-18 aircraft.
Working Conditions:
- Work is performed primarily outdoors under all types of weather conditions.
- Exposure to loud noise and exhaust fumes.
- Rotating shifts and travel for detachments are required.
