Plane Captain Job Description

Overview

The Plane Captain is responsible for a wide range of aircraft handling, servicing, and inspection duties, ensuring the safe and efficient operation of aircraft. This role encompasses pre-operational inspections, fueling, and ground support equipment management. The Plane Captain also provides technical guidance and instruction to team members in the Aircraft Washer and Plane Captain Helper classifications.

Physical Demands:

The Plane Captain role requires a range of physical movements and postures commonly associated with shop/hanger/flight line maintenance activities, including bending, stooping, walking, climbing, pushing, stretching, kneeling, and working in tiring, uncomfortable positions. The position demands eye-hand coordination, manual dexterity, and the ability to lift objects weighing up to 70 pounds. The Plane Captain must be able to walk and stand on level and/or inclined surfaces for extended periods throughout the day. The position also requires close vision, including color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Additionally, the Plane Captain must have the ability to hear at the normal range. The role may require the use of a respirator.

Work Environment:

The work environment can vary significantly, ranging from an environment with minimal physical discomfort to an environment where inclement weather may expose the individual to severe changes in temperature, wind, rain, etc. The Plane Captain may be required to work in areas with high noise hazards, potential electrical shock hazards, fumes, or airborne particles.
