F/A-18 Plane Captain - NAS Oceana, VA
Amentum is seeking highly motivated individuals to join our team as F/A-18 Plane Captains at Naval Air Station Oceana in Virginia. As a Plane Captain, you will play a critical role in supporting U.S. Navy aircraft maintenance operations, ensuring the readiness and safety of these essential assets.
Responsibilities:
- Perform a wide range of tasks associated with aircraft servicing and maintenance, including:
- Directing aircraft movement on the flight line using hand signals.
- Securing aircraft in parking positions with chocks and tie-downs.
- Replenishing fuel and oil using service vehicles.
- Conducting pre-flight and post-flight inspections.
- Maintaining detailed maintenance records.
- Operating ground support equipment such as tow tractors and engine starting units.
- Performing tire pressure and condition checks.
- Assisting with aircraft towing.
- Maintaining cleanliness of aircraft exteriors and interiors, hangar decks, and work areas.
- Become certified as a Plane Captain through a Government-approved process.
- Work rotating shifts and participate in temporary detachments as required by operational tempo.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum two (2) years of recent and relevant experience in aircraft maintenance at the organizational level.
- Valid Virginia driver's license (North Carolina driver's license required if residing in North Carolina).
- Thorough knowledge and experience using specialized tools and equipment associated with aircraft maintenance.
- Ability to read and interpret technical publications, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
- Proven self-motivation and ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Excellent physical fitness and ability to meet medical examination requirements associated with the physical demands of the role, including standing, climbing, bending, and stooping for extended periods.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Security Clearance for Public Trust, including passing a 7-year background check.
- Ability to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization. US Citizenship is required for facility credentials/authorization at this work location.
- Must be able to pass and maintain a U.S. Government background security check and provide favorable fingerprints for entry in the EQIP database.
- May be required to complete an SF-85/86 in EQIP to maintain possession of a CAC card.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience as an F/A-18 Plane Captain, Brake Rider, or Move Director.
- Completion of military aviation maintenance training or maintenance technical school curriculum, or possession of an FAA issued A&P license.
- Prior experience with U.S. Navy aviation experience on F/A-18 aircraft.
Work Environment:
Primarily outdoors, exposed to all types of weather conditions, loud noise, and exhaust fumes.
