Plane Captain
About the Role:
The Plane Captain plays a vital role in ensuring the safe and efficient operation of our aircraft. This hands-on position encompasses a wide range of responsibilities, including aircraft handling, servicing, inspections, and providing guidance to junior team members.
Responsibilities:
- Conduct daily and turnaround inspections, meticulously adhering to established procedures.
- Execute aircraft fueling and sampling procedures in accordance with industry standards.
- Skillfully launch and recover aircraft, ensuring smooth and safe operations.
- Act as aircraft taxi director during critical launch and recovery phases.
- Expertly tow aircraft and perform brake rider duties as required.
- Secure and protect aircraft by diligently tying down and covering them using approved methods.
- Provide invaluable technical assistance, guidance, and instruction to Aircraft Washer and Plane Captain Helper personnel.
- Maintain constant communication utilizing two-way communication equipment.
- Champion safety by enforcing compliance with Foreign Object Damage (FOD), Hazardous Waste, Egress Familiarization, and Tool Control programs.
- Uphold a safe working environment by adhering to all established general and industrial safety regulations.
- Ensure the security and meticulous maintenance of government and company-owned equipment.
- Deliver outstanding customer service with a courteous and professional demeanor.
- Operate portable firefighting equipment with proficiency.
- Maintain a clean and organized work center.
- Perform other duties as assigned, showcasing flexibility and adaptability.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- Minimum of two years of hands-on experience in aviation maintenance or flight line operations is essential.
- Possession of a valid Driver's License is mandatory.
- Ability to meet all government and company licensing or qualification requirements for the position is non-negotiable.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to read, write, understand, and speak English fluently, and meticulously follow verbal and written instructions.
- Thorough understanding of relevant safety and maintenance manuals.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of aircraft flight line operations, handling, servicing, marshaling, common hand tools, and standard operational safety requirements.
- Flexibility to work various shifts and schedules as required.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in cross-country rescues and detachments is highly desirable.
Physical Demands:
This position requires physical dexterity, including the ability to:
- Travel for extended periods.
- Use hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
- Possess close vision, including color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
- Have normal hearing range.
- Potentially wear a respirator.
- Walk and stand on level and inclined surfaces for prolonged periods.
- Climb, bend, stoop, squat, crawl, crouch, kneel, lift, carry, balance, reach above shoulder level, push, and pull weight up to 70 pounds.
