Plane Captain - Aviation Operations
Seeking a meticulous and experienced Plane Captain to join our aviation operations team. The Plane Captain plays a vital role in ensuring the safety and operational readiness of our aircraft. This individual will be responsible for a wide range of duties, including aircraft handling, servicing, inspections, and providing technical guidance to junior team members.
Responsibilities:
- Perform pre-flight, daily, and turnaround inspections in accordance with established procedures.
- Conduct meticulous aircraft fuel sampling and servicing, adhering to strict safety protocols.
- Orchestrate the safe and efficient launch and recovery of aircraft, acting as the aircraft taxi director during these critical phases.
- Expertly tow aircraft and serve as a brake rider when necessary, demonstrating a thorough understanding of aircraft ground handling procedures.
- Securely tie down and cover aircraft, ensuring their protection from the elements.
- Provide technical assistance, guidance, and instruction to Aircraft Washers and Plane Captain Helpers, fostering a culture of knowledge sharing and teamwork.
- Maintain constant vigilance for Foreign Object Debris (FOD), ensuring a pristine and safe operational environment.
- Uphold the highest standards of safety, meticulously adhering to all established general and industrial safety regulations.
- Safeguard government and company-owned equipment, prioritizing their security and preservation.
- Deliver exceptional customer service, maintaining a professional and courteous demeanor at all times.
- Demonstrate proficiency in operating portable firefighting equipment, ensuring preparedness for any emergency situation.
- Maintain a clean and organized work center, reflecting a commitment to excellence in all aspects of the role.
- Adapt and excel in performing other duties as assigned, showcasing a flexible and proactive approach.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
- A minimum of two years of experience in aviation maintenance and/or flight line operations is essential, demonstrating a solid foundation in aircraft handling and procedures.
- A valid Driver's License is mandatory.
- The ability to obtain and maintain any company/government required qualifications, certifications, licensing, or security clearance is crucial.
- Excellent communication skills, including the ability to read, write, understand, and communicate effectively in English, as well as follow verbal and written instructions, are paramount.
- Comprehensive knowledge of applicable safety and maintenance manuals is essential.
- In-depth understanding of aircraft flight line operations, aircraft handling, servicing, marshaling, common hand tools, and standard operational safety requirements for aircraft is required.
- Flexibility to work any assigned shift and schedule, demonstrating a commitment to meeting operational demands.
- Willingness to travel in support of cross-country rescues and detachments of unknown duration, showcasing adaptability and a dedication to the mission.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
This role requires physical stamina and the ability to perform tasks such as bending, stooping, walking, climbing, pushing, stretching, kneeling, and working in potentially tiring and uncomfortable positions. The candidate must possess good eye-hand coordination, manual dexterity, and the ability to lift up to 70 pounds. Working outdoors in various weather conditions, including extreme temperatures, wind, and rain, is expected. Exposure to high noise levels, electrical shock hazards, and fumes or airborne particles is possible.
