F/A-18 Plane Captain
Amentum is seeking highly motivated and experienced F/A-18 Plane Captains to join our team at NAS Oceana, VA. In this crucial role, you will directly support U.S. Navy aircraft maintenance operations, ensuring the readiness and airworthiness of these vital assets.
Responsibilities:
- Direct the movement of aircraft on the flight line, using hand signals and ground handling expertise.
- Secure aircraft in parking positions, utilizing chocks and tie-down procedures.
- Conduct pre-flight and post-flight inspections, meticulously documenting all servicing activities.
- Perform a range of aircraft servicing tasks, including refueling, oil replenishment, and checking for fuel contamination.
- Operate ground support equipment, such as tow tractors, electrical power supplies, and engine starting units.
- Inspect aircraft tires, ensuring proper air pressure and identifying any signs of damage.
- Assist in towing aircraft as needed and maintain a clean and organized work environment, including hangar deck housekeeping.
- Demonstrate a proactive approach to safety, adhering to all regulations and procedures.
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Minimum of two (2) years of recent and relevant organizational level aircraft maintenance experience is highly desired.
- Valid driver's license from Virginia or North Carolina (if residing in North Carolina).
- Demonstrated proficiency in using specialized tools and equipment required for aircraft maintenance tasks.
- Ability to read and interpret technical publications, including safety rules, operating manuals, and maintenance procedures.
- Strong work ethic, capable of working independently and as part of a team.
- Must be able to meet the physical demands of the position, including standing, climbing, bending, and stooping for extended periods.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain facility credentials/authorization, which requires US Citizenship.
- Must be able to obtain an approved status from the Contractor Verification system, including a 7-year background check and a Security Clearance for Public Trust.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Previous experience as an F/A-18 Plane Captain, Brake Rider, or Move Director.
- Completion of military aviation maintenance training, a maintenance technical school curriculum, or possession of an FAA-issued A&P license is highly desirable.
- Prior experience working with U.S. Navy aviation, particularly on F/A-18 aircraft, is a significant advantage.
Additional Information:
- This position requires shift work and may involve travel for detachments.
- Work is primarily performed outdoors, exposing candidates to various weather conditions, loud noises, and exhaust fumes.
