Job Summary
Amentum is seeking a skilled Plane Captain to perform aircraft handling, servicing, and inspections. This role involves providing technical assistance and guidance to employees within the Aircraft Washer and Plane Captain Helper classifications. The position is located at a government facility, requiring adherence to specific safety and operational procedures.
About the Role
The Plane Captain is responsible for a range of aircraft ground operations and support duties. Key responsibilities include:

Performing duties of Aircraft Washer and Plane Captain Helper classifications.

Conducting daily and turn-around aircraft inspections in accordance with established procedures.

Initiating and completing necessary maintenance forms.

Executing aircraft fuel sampling and servicing as per established procedures.

Launching and recovering aircraft.

Directing aircraft taxi during launch and recovery operations.

Performing aircraft towing and acting as a brake rider when required.

Tying down and covering aircraft using established procedures.
-
Providing technical assistance, guidance, and instruction.

Utilizing two-way communication equipment.

Ensuring compliance with Foreign Object Damage (FOD), Hazardous Waste, Egress Familiarization, and Tool Control programs.

Adhering to all established general and industrial safety rules and regulations.

Ensuring the safety, security, and preservation of government and company-owned equipment.

Providing courteous and professional customer service.

Operating portable firefighting equipment.

Maintaining the cleanliness of the work center.

Performing other qualified duties as assigned.
Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent is required.

A minimum of two (2) years of experience in aviation maintenance and/or flight line operations.

A valid Driver’s License is mandatory.

Ability to obtain and maintain any company/government required qualifications, certifications, licensing, or security clearance.

Proficiency in reading, writing, understanding, and communicating the English language, including following verbal and written instructions.

Thorough knowledge of applicable safety and maintenance manuals.

Comprehensive working knowledge of aircraft flight line operations, aircraft handling, servicing, marshaling, common hand tools, and normal operational safety requirements of aircraft.

Must be able to work any assigned shift and schedule.

Ability to travel in support of cross-country rescues and detachments of unknown duration.
Physical Demands and Work Environment
This position involves physical activities such as bending, stooping, walking, climbing, pushing, stretching, kneeling, and working in uncomfortable positions. Requires eye-hand coordination, manual dexterity, and the ability to lift objects up to 70 pounds. Candidates must be able to stand for extended periods and possess close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Hearing at the normal range is necessary. Respirator use may be required. The work environment can range from minimal discomfort to exposure to inclement weather, high noise levels, electrical shock hazards, and fumes or airborne particles.
