News 12 Networks is the first, largest and most watched 24-hour local television news network in the country, with seven individual local news channels and five traffic and weather channels serving Long Island, New Jersey, Connecticut, Westchester, Hudson Valley, the Bronx, and Brooklyn.

Responsibilities

News 12 is looking for an experienced Freelance Pilot to provide complete coverage of stories for all of the locations which we serve.

• Operate chopper to ensure overall safety and successful completion of each flight.
• Conduct pre-flight check of aircraft prior to each flight.
• Determine fuel needs and weight balance of aircraft.
• Check weather conditions before each flight.
• Ensure compliance of FAA regulations with respect to maintenance of aircraft.
• Maintain flight logs and training records in accordance with FAA regulations.
• Ensure compliance with operating procedures designed to maximize safety and efficiency of Chopper 12 operations
• Assist the on-board photographer in coordinating newsroom personnel and photographers to obtain compelling news video.
• Assist in the training of temporary pilots.
• Coordinate maintenance of aircraft.
• Participate/contribute content across all platforms (including but not limited to iO channel 612, News 12.com, blogs, News 12 To Go cell phone service, infobar, etc.)
• Participate in special projects and perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Two years of experience in the aviation industry
• 1000 flight hours (500 which has to be as Pilot In Command (PIC), 200 which has to be in the specific aircraft being flown, i.e. AS350BA)
• Commercial pilot's license
• National Broadcast Pilots Association
• Knowledge of Airframe and Powerplant systems
• Knowledge of weather and air-space
• Knowledge of Code of Federal Regulations, specifically Part 91 - General Operating Rules
• Proficiency in emergency procedures relating to mechanical failure
• FAA Class II physical
• Certified flight instructor (CFI) is preferred.
