Ascend Pilot Academy: A Pathway to a Professional Aviation Career

The Ascend Pilot Academy, a collaborative initiative between Horizon Air and Alaska Airlines, presents an intensive flight training program meticulously designed for aspiring commercial pilots. This program welcomes individuals with minimal or no prior flight experience, offering a structured path to becoming a First Officer at Horizon Air. With a strong emphasis on equity, the program actively supports all aspiring pilots, including those requiring financial aid.

Program Highlights:

  • Training Location: Hillsboro Aero Academy in Hillsboro and Redmond, Oregon.
  • Program Duration: Approximately 3 to 3.5 years.
  • Financial Support: $27,000 stipend towards the commercial pilot certificate, and up to $3,500 for the Certified Flight Instructor-Instrument (CFII) certificate.
  • Post-Training Commitment: A minimum three-year commitment as a pilot for Horizon Air following the successful completion of all training, certification, and flight experience prerequisites.
  • Advancement Opportunities: Eligible graduates can pursue a First Officer position at Alaska Airlines through the Pilot Pathways program.

Eligibility Requirements:

Candidates must possess:

  • A valid passport allowing unrestricted travel to and from the U.S.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • A First Class Medical certificate.
  • The ability to work varied schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Excellent English communication skills and U.S. work authorization.
  • Limited prior flight training, not exceeding the level of a Private Pilot's License.
  • The ability to relocate to Hillsboro Aero Academy training locations in Redmond or Hillsboro, Oregon.

Program Participation Requirements:

Participation requires consent to ongoing release of the following records to Horizon Air and Alaska Airlines:

  • Training records.
  • Disciplinary records.
  • Attendance records.
  • Any other records deemed necessary and relevant to the program.
