Ascend Pilot Academy: A Pathway to a Commercial Aviation Career with Horizon Air and Alaska Airlines
The Ascend Pilot Academy offers aspiring commercial pilots with limited or no prior flight experience a comprehensive training program leading to a career as a First Officer with Horizon Air. This program, designed to promote equity and accessibility, provides financial support to help individuals achieve their aviation dreams.
Program Overview:
- Training Location: Hillsboro Aero Academy in Hillsboro and Redmond, Oregon.
- Program Length: Approximately 3-3.5 years.
- Stipends: $27,000 towards the commercial pilot certificate and up to $3,500 to cover the Certified Flight Instructor - Instrument Certificate (CFII).
- Student Commitment: A minimum of 3 years of employment as a pilot for Horizon Air upon completion of all training, certification, and experience requirements.
Pathway to Alaska Airlines:
Graduates of the Ascend Pilot Academy are eligible to join Alaska Airlines as a First Officer through the Pilot Pathways program, once eligibility criteria are met.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Valid passport allowing unrestricted travel to and from the United States.
- Valid driver's license.
- First Class Medical Certificate.
- Ability to work a variety of schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English and authorization to work in the United States.
- Limited or no prior flight training experience, not exceeding a Private Pilot's License.
- Ability to relocate to the Hillsboro Aero Academy training locations in Redmond, OR or Hillsboro, OR.
Program Entry:
Acceptance into the program requires the student to agree to the ongoing release of the following records to Horizon Air and Alaska Airlines:
- Training records.
- Disciplinary records.
- Attendance records.
- Any other records containing necessary and relevant information for the program.
