Ascend Pilot Academy: A Pathway to a Commercial Aviation Career
The Ascend Pilot Academy, a joint initiative of Horizon Air and Alaska Airlines, presents a unique opportunity for aspiring commercial pilots with limited flying experience to pursue their aviation dreams. This intensive training program, designed to foster equity and accessibility, provides comprehensive flight training and experience-building opportunities, preparing participants to join Horizon Air as First Officers.
Program Highlights:
- Location: Hillsboro Aero Academy in Hillsboro and Redmond, Oregon
- Duration: Approximately 3 to 3.5 years
- Financial Assistance: A $27,000 stipend towards commercial pilot certification and up to $3,500 to cover the Certified Flight Instructor - Instrument (CFII) certificate.
- Commitment: Successful completion of the program requires a minimum 3-year commitment to working as a pilot for Horizon Air.
- Alaska Airlines Pathway: Eligibility for the Pilot Pathways program allows participants an opportunity to join Alaska Airlines as a First Officer.
Eligibility Requirements:
- Valid passport permitting unrestricted travel to and from the United States.
- Valid driver's license.
- First Class Medical Certificate.
- Ability to work flexible schedules, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Ability to communicate effectively in English and authorized to work in the United States.
- Little to no flight training experience, not exceeding a Private Pilot's License.
- Willingness to relocate to the Hillsboro Aero Academy training locations in Redmond or Hillsboro, Oregon.
Program Participation:
Entry into the Ascend Pilot Academy requires the student's agreement to an ongoing release of the following records to Horizon Air and Alaska Airlines:
- Training Records
- Disciplinary Records
- Attendance Records
- Any other relevant records necessary for the program
