Role Summary

The Senior Flight Courseware Developer / Instructor is a subject matter expert and flight instructor qualified at Alaska Air. As an individual contributor, this role exercises considerable judgement to make decisions as a Developer / Instructor and coordinates with other company divisions, outside agencies, and vendors to develop, maintain, and implement aircraft training programs. On a limited basis, this role provides flight or ground instruction as directed for Indoctrination, Qualification and Continuing Qualification training programs and provides technical expertise to ensure flight manuals are technically correct and aircrews are using proper operational procedures. This individual contributor role provides a means to train pilots on aircraft systems and procedures so they can safely operate aircraft using standardized procedures during normal and abnormal situations. This role develops and maintains flight courseware for Qualification and Continuing Qualification training programs.

Key Duties

+ Coordinates with internal and external customers, regulatory agencies, and others as required to develop, maintains and deliver flight training courseware.

+ Assumes the primary role of the FCDI to author, edit, coordinate, publish, and maintain flight training materials and courseware in accordance with department procedures.

+ Delivers pilot indoctrination, qualification, and continuing qualification ground or flight training instruction for pilots in accordance with approved training program policy, procedures, and regulatory requirements.

+ Provides technical subject matter expertise for the development and modification of operational procedures and identifies possible impacts to modifications on the training program.

+ Assists in the instructional system design process for developing and modifying Advanced Qualification Program (AQP) training curricula.

+ Assists in the management of flight training department projects.

+ Performs other duties as assigned.

Job-Specific Experience, Education & Skills

Required

+ 4 years of commercial or military aircraft flight and/or ground instruction experience.

+ Bachelor’s degree, or an additional two years of relevant training/experience in lieu of this degree.

+ Ability to complete the Alaska Airlines Captain Qualification Curriculum and obtain 737 type rating.

+ Basic knowledge and understanding of Air Traffic Control (ATC) procedures, Federal Aviation Regulations (FARs), the Aeronautical Information Manual, meteorology and other aviation related subjects.

+ Knowledge of crew resource management (CRM) concepts.

+ General knowledge of commercial aircraft systems.

+ Demonstrated writing and editing skills to develop training documents and manuals.

+ Detailed oriented and highly organized, with ability to multi-task and work independently with limited guidance in a fast-paced environment.

+ Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

+ High school diploma or equivalent is required.

+ Minimum age of 18.

+ Must be authorized to work in the U.S.

Preferred

+ Formal instructional systems design experience.

+ 737 pilot and instructor experience.
