Second Officer

The Second Officer monitors the progress of assigned flights, adhering to the Air Arabia Operational Manual and GCAA/CAA regulations. This role supports the Captain in ensuring safety, security, and efficiency throughout each flight. The Second Officer meticulously records and documents all necessary data, provides support to the flight and cabin crew, and executes emergency procedures when directed. In accordance with established protocols, they may assume control of the flight from the Captain when instructed or required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assists the Captain in monitoring flight progress, operating system efficiency, and cabin crew performance, demonstrating a high level of cooperation and a systematic approach to information exchange and task distribution.
  • Operates flights in compliance with the Air Arabia Operations Manual and CAA regulations, applying and monitoring procedures to ensure safe and seamless aircraft operation.
  • Flies Air Arabia aircrafts between destinations when instructed by the Captain, prioritizing safety, efficiency, and passenger comfort.
  • Coordinates with the First Officer and Dispatch Team before each flight to ensure cabin crew preparedness, providing critical information regarding aircraft technical status, route preferences, weather, fuel calculations, passenger count, and role distribution.
  • Conducts pre-flight cockpit checks, confirms taxiing and take-off with the Captain, and manages assigned documentation tasks including take-off data, fuel requirements, and ATS flight plans. Provides regular briefings to the First Officer and Captain.
  • Utilizes adopted systems and forms to record data such as logbooks and security checks, verifying calculated data with the First Officer and Captain.
  • At stations lacking qualified personnel, checks fuel types and supervises aircraft fueling to ensure proper distribution.
  • Alerts the Captain to any irregularities or unfavorable conditions that could compromise safety, implementing necessary actions as directed and assisting the crew in responding to safety or security incidents.
  • Ensures that the Air Arabia Operations Manual is accessible, up-to-date, and adhered to by Flight Crew; assists the First Officer/Captain in securing the aircraft at stations where this is not immediately achievable, until the return to home base.
  • Undertakes additional ground-based tasks such as Safety or Security Officer, as directed by the Head of Flight Operations, in accordance with the Air Arabia Operations Manual.
  • Maintains current knowledge of legal requirements from various regulatory bodies including Civil Aviation, GCAA/CAA, Airbus, and other relevant authorities, and attends all recurrent and competency-based training as scheduled.
  • Assists the Captain in completing necessary records and reports such as journey logs, aircraft flight logs, safety, and discretion reports, and submits flight envelopes to the designated location post-flight when instructed by the First Officer.

Qualifications:

  • Must hold an appropriate License (MPL, CPL) with a frozen ATPL.
  • Must successfully complete the technical and psychometric assessment for First Officer, adhering to Air Arabia/GCAA/CAA standards.
  • Must possess an Aviation Class One Medical Certificate for First Officers, as required by GCAA regulation.
  • Essential training in safety and emergency response; a formal qualification is preferred.
  • Preferred training in basic airport and security procedures and regulations.
  • Proficient in aircraft systems and Microsoft Office, with competency in internet and web search.
  • Strong written and verbal communication abilities, including technical report writing and presentations.
  • Excellent English language skills; proficiency in Arabic and French is advantageous.

Work Experience and Skills:

  • Demonstrates comprehensive knowledge of aircraft systems and operational procedures.
  • Capable of assuming additional delegated responsibilities, including security or safety-related roles, as required by Air Arabia and GCAA/CAA regulations.
  • Proficient in applying policies, procedures, and manuals in accordance with approved standards and regulations.
  • A strong team player capable of working effectively under pressure with changing schedules.
  • Understands QA, safety, security, and audit procedures relevant to Flight Operations.
  • Remains composed, self-confident, and focused, effectively handling emergencies and threats.
  • Proven ability to identify irregularities and recommend appropriate solutions.
  • Cost-oriented with effective problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Exhibits a high degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Demonstrates the ability to leverage technical expertise and interpersonal skills to support company objectives.
