The National Guard seeks an experienced Airplane Pilot (Title 32) for its 188th Airlift Wing in the AR ANG, located in Fort Smith, Arkansas. This role involves piloting advanced military aircraft on assigned missions, adhering to flight parameters, and maintaining mission qualifications.
About the Role
This position requires the piloting of advanced, single or multi-engine military aircraft, including high-performance fighter aircraft, on tactical and non-tactical missions. The incumbent will utilize precision instrument flight techniques and advanced navigational aids. Responsibilities include preparing for flights by analyzing weather, planning routes, verifying aircraft readiness, briefing crew and passengers, and obtaining clearances. During flight, the pilot will operate the aircraft with the utmost safety, coordinate with ground units, monitor aircraft performance, and execute corrective actions as necessary. Post-flight duties involve maintaining aircraft logs and forms, writing flight reports, coordinating with maintenance, and conducting post-flight checks. The role may also involve serving as the Air Commander's representative as Supervisor of Flying (SOF), responsible for the safe and efficient mission accomplishment of the unit.

National Guard membership is required.

Applicants must be eligible for compatible military grade and assignment prior to the effective date of placement.

Minimum military grade: O-2/1LT.

Maximum military grade: O-5/LTC.

Compatible military assignments include membership in the Arkansas Air National Guard.

Must possess or initiate a National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI) background investigation.

A pre-placement physical is required if not already current.

Must complete mandatory Full-Time Support (FTS) Training at the Professional Education Center (PEC) within six months of assignment.

Must meet all military requirements of the position without creating a grade inversion.

Males born after December 31, 1959, must be registered for Selective Service.

Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.

May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.

Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.

Must be able to obtain/maintain appropriate security clearance.

Ability to obtain Instructor Pilot upgrade within 36 months.
Qualifications
General Experience:
-
Assisting the pilot in aircraft operations by determining, planning, and performing the navigational aspects of the flight.

Knowledge of various methods of air navigation and skill in using navigational instruments, equipment, and systems.

Some positions may require knowledge of the use and deployment of fighter aircraft ordnance, skill to conduct preflight checks, recognize malfunctions, and coordinate delivery with the pilot.

Knowledge of weapon ballistics and skill to operate related avionics systems for fighter aircraft.

Providing ground and flight instruction in air navigation.
Specialized Experience:

At least 36 months experience, education, or training that required obtaining information on type of mission, weather, and intelligence data, and special instructions.

Experience preparing navigation flight plans.

Experience providing knowledge of proper readings and operations of navigational systems.

Validated ability to test and inspect the operation of compasses, navigation systems, or radio and radar equipment.

Experience utilizing various navigational methods and aids to accomplish flying missions.

Experience computing the effect of various factors during flight to establish present course and project balance of course.

Ability to train, evaluate, and certify proficiency and competency of lower-graded personnel.

Validated completion of the necessary hours required for applicants' current airframe (e.g., 1000 hours total navigation time including 200 hours in the C-130).
