The Michigan Air National Guard is seeking a qualified Airplane Pilot for a Title 32 National Guard position at the 127 Wing, Operations Group in Michigan. This role involves piloting unit-equipped military aircraft and performing administrative duties in support of air operations programs.
About the Role
This position is integral to the Air National Guard's aviation wing, focusing on the safe and efficient piloting of advanced, single or multi-engine military aircraft, including high-performance fighter aircraft. Responsibilities encompass executing tactical and non-tactical missions using precision instrument flight techniques, managing flight planning from weather assessment to flight plan filing, conducting pre-flight checks, and ensuring crew and passenger safety. The incumbent will also perform post-flight activities such as maintaining logs, writing reports, and coordinating with maintenance personnel. As a representative of the Air Commander, the pilot may serve as Supervisor of Flying, overseeing safe and efficient mission accomplishment.

MICHIGAN AIR NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED.

Must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the Michigan Air National Guard.

Must be willing to wear the military uniform.

Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must be registered for Selective Service.

Must successfully complete a background investigation and may be required to complete a trial period.

Qualifications

MILITARY GRADE: O2-O4
-
Possession of Federal Aviation Administration pilot certificates OR appropriate military certifications and military ratings in the main-frame military aircraft of employment.

At least two years of experience in civilian aviation programs, military service aviation programs (active duty or reserve components), Army National Guard Aviation Support facility, or Air National Guard Wing/Operations Group.

Experience in piloting and instructing pilot skills in one or more of the following: Fixed-wing, rotary, or remotely piloted aircraft (RPA).

Experience in reading and applying mission tasks, intelligence reports, and weather information.

Experience in supervising and/or conducting mission planning, mission preparations, filing of flight plans, and conducting crew briefings.

Experience in aircraft preflight inspections, aircraft loading, equipment assessments, and mission manning.

Experience in operating aircraft controls and equipment.

Experience in performing or supervising work procedures involved in navigation, in-flight refueling, search and rescue operations, surveillance, or reconnaissance.

Experience in conducting or supervising crew member training on simple to complex mission-specific tasks.

Experience in developing plans and policies, monitoring operations, and advising commanders.

Experience in flight theory, air navigation, meteorology, flying directives, aircraft operating procedures, and mission tactics.

Experience in aviation unit quality control management programs.

Experience in unit flying, explosive, and ground safety programs.

Experience in one or more missions such as air-to-air; air-to-ground; mortar-to-arm escort; surveillance; reconnaissance; surface attack; killer-scout; target illumination; or laser targeting.

Experience in visual flight rule type flying and aircraft instrument flying.

Experience in planning, scheduling, and conducting training flights through Federal Aviation Administration controlled national airspace.

Experience working independently to plan and perform work assignments.

Experience performing aviation duties such as cancelling flying activities, diverting aircraft, dictating mission requirements, approving specific activities, coordinating for airport or airspace utilization with FAA, or directing emergency actions.

Experience in applying instructional techniques to the training of other pilots.

Experience in standardization and evaluation programs, written ground examinations, emergency procedures, and aircrew performance standards.

Experience in reviewing and complying with applicable service flight publications and directives.

Experience on weaponry and combat or non-combat tactics for applicable military aircraft.

Experience with wartime and peacetime contingency plans.
