About the Role
The Michigan Air National Guard is seeking a qualified Airplane Pilot for a Title 32 Excepted Service position at the 127 Wing, Operations Group in Michigan. This role involves piloting unit-equipped aircraft and performing administrative duties to support air operations programs. Successful candidates will be responsible for the safe and efficient accomplishment of unit missions.
Duties

Piloting advanced single or multi-engine military aircraft, including high-performance fighter aircraft, for tactical and non-tactical missions.

Utilizing advanced precision instrument flight techniques and air navigational aids.

Ensuring flights remain within established parameters for speed and loading.
-
Executing normal flight procedures and standard maneuvers in all weather conditions.

Preparing for flights by obtaining weather information, planning routes, and filing flight plans.

Verifying aircraft readiness, including loading, weight distribution, and pre-flight checks.

Briefing passengers and crew on flight details and emergency procedures.

Operating aircraft with a focus on safety, adhering to flight manuals and coordinating with ground control.

Monitoring aircraft performance and flight progress, taking corrective action as needed.

Completing post-flight activities, including maintaining logs, writing reports, and coordinating with maintenance.

Serving as the Air Commander's representative when acting as Supervisor of Flying (SOF).
Requirements

MICHIGAN AIR NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED.

Must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the Michigan Air National Guard.

Must be willing to wear the military uniform.

Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must be registered for Selective Service.

Must successfully complete a background investigation and potential trial period.

Mandatory participation in direct deposit.

Must possess a valid civilian driver's license.
Qualifications
-
Military Grade: O2-O4.

Eligibility requires possession of Federal Aviation Administration pilot certificates OR appropriate military certifications and military ratings in the main-frame military aircraft of employment.

Specialized experience includes at least two years of experience in civilian or military aviation programs, or in an Army National Guard Aviation Support Facility or Air National Guard Wing/Operations Group.

Experience must include piloting and instructing pilot skills in one or more of the following: Fixed-wing, rotary, or remotely piloted aircraft (RPA).

Demonstrated experience in reading and applying mission tasks, intelligence reports, and weather information.

Experience in supervising and/or conducting mission planning, preparations, flight plan filing, and crew briefings.

Experience in aircraft pre-flight inspections, loading, equipment assessments, and mission manning.

Experience in operating aircraft controls and equipment.
-
Experience in performing or supervising navigation, in-flight refueling, search and rescue, surveillance, or reconnaissance.

Experience in conducting or supervising crew member training.
-
Experience in developing plans and policies, monitoring operations, and advising commanders.

Experience in flight theory, air navigation, meteorology, flying directives, aircraft operating procedures, and mission tactics.

Experience in aviation unit quality control management programs.

Experience in unit flying, explosive, and ground safety programs.

Experience in one or more missions such as air-to-air, air-to-ground, surveillance, reconnaissance, or surface attack.

Experience in visual flight rules (VFR) and instrument flight rules (IFR) flying.

Experience in planning, scheduling, and conducting training flights through federally controlled airspace.

Experience in working independently to plan and perform work assignments.

Experience performing aviation duties such as cancelling flying activities, diverting aircraft, or directing emergency actions.

Experience with standardization and evaluation programs, ground examinations, and aircrew performance standards.
Education
