Job Summary
The Michigan Air National Guard is seeking a qualified Airplane Pilot to join the MI 127 Wing, Operations Group at the 191st OSS. This Title 32 Excepted Service position requires active Michigan Air National Guard membership and involves piloting a unit-equipped aircraft while also performing administrative duties supporting the Air Operations program. The role is based in Michigan.
About the Role

Pilot advanced, single or multi-engine military aircraft on tactical and non-tactical missions.

Execute precision instrument flight techniques and standard maneuvers in all weather conditions.

Prepare for flights by analyzing weather, planning routes, checking aircraft readiness, and briefing crew.

Operate aircraft with a focus on safety, adhering to flight manuals and coordinating with ground units.
-
Perform post-flight activities including maintaining logs, writing reports, and coordinating with maintenance.

Serve as the Air Commander's representative when acting as Supervisor of Flying (SOF).
Requirements

Must be a member of the Michigan Air National Guard.

Must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the Michigan Air National Guard.

Must wear the military uniform.

Males born after December 31, 1959, must be registered for Selective Service.

Must successfully complete a background investigation to determine Federal employment suitability.

May be required to complete a trial period.

Direct deposit participation is mandatory.

Must possess a valid civilian driver's license.
Qualifications
-
Federal Aviation Administration pilot certificates OR appropriate military certifications and ratings.
-
Possession of necessary competencies (knowledge, skills, and abilities).

At least two years of experience in civilian aviation programs, military aviation programs (active duty or reserve), or within an Army National Guard Aviation Support facility or Air National Guard Wing/Operations Group.

Experience piloting and instructing pilot skills in one or more of the following: Fixed-wing, rotary, or remotely piloted aircraft (RPA).

Experience in reading and applying mission tasks, intelligence reports, and weather information.

Experience in supervising or conducting mission planning, flight preparations, filing flight plans, and crew briefings.

Experience in aircraft preflight inspections, loading, equipment assessments, and mission manning.

Experience operating aircraft controls and equipment.
-
Experience performing or supervising navigation, in-flight refueling, search and rescue, surveillance, or reconnaissance.

Experience conducting or supervising crew member training on mission-specific tasks.
-
Experience developing plans and policies, monitoring operations, and advising commanders.

Experience in flight theory, air navigation, meteorology, flying directives, aircraft operating procedures, and mission tactics.

Experience with aviation unit quality control management programs.

Experience with unit flying, explosive, and ground safety programs.

Experience with various missions such as air-to-air, air-to-ground, surveillance, reconnaissance, or surface attack.

Experience with traditional "stick and rudder" controls, aircraft instrumentation, and video cameras.

Experience with visual flight rules (VFR) and instrument flight rules (IFR) flying.

Experience planning, scheduling, and conducting training flights in federally controlled airspace.

Experience working independently to plan and perform work assignments.

Experience completing missions safely and efficiently using Operational Risk Management.

Experience performing aviation duties such as cancelling flights, diverting aircraft, dictating mission requirements, or directing emergency actions.

Experience with applicable Army aviation regulations, policies, requirements, and standards.

Experience with standardization and evaluation programs, ground examinations, emergency procedures, and aircrew performance standards.

Experience reviewing and complying with service flight publications and directives.

Experience with weaponry and combat or non-combat tactics for applicable military aircraft.

Experience with wartime and peacetime contingency plans for mobilizations, deployments, and troop missions.
