The Michigan Air National Guard is seeking a qualified Airplane Pilot to serve within the MI 127 Wing, Operations Group at a flying unit located in Michigan. This Title 32 Excepted Service position requires military membership and involves piloting unit-equipped aircraft and performing administrative duties to support the Air Operations program.
About the Role
This position is responsible for piloting advanced, single or multi-engine military aircraft, including high-performance fighter jets, for tactical and non-tactical missions. Key responsibilities include executing precision instrument flight techniques, adhering to flight parameters in various weather conditions, and completing point-to-point flights both domestically and internationally. The role also encompasses extensive pre-flight preparations such as weather analysis, flight planning using maps and charts, aircraft readiness checks, and passenger/crew briefings. Post-flight activities include maintaining aircraft logs, writing flight reports, and coordinating with maintenance personnel. Additionally, the incumbent may serve as the Air Commander's representative when performing duties as Supervisor of Flying (SOF), ensuring safe and efficient mission accomplishment.

MICHIGAN AIR NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. Applicants must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the Michigan Air National Guard.

Qualifications

Federal Aviation Administration pilot certificates OR appropriate military certifications and military ratings in the main-frame military aircraft of employment.

Possession of required competencies, knowledge, skills, and abilities.

At least two years of experience in civilian aviation programs, military service aviation programs (active duty or reserve components), or within an Army National Guard Aviation Support facility or Air National Guard Wing/Operations Group.

Experience in piloting and instructing pilot skills in one or more of the following main-frame/military aircraft: Fixed-wing, rotary, or remotely piloted aircraft (RPA).

Experience in reading and applying mission tasks, intelligence reports, and weather information.

Experience in supervising and/or conducting mission planning, mission preparations, filing flight plans, and conducting crew briefings.

Experience in aircraft preflight inspections, aircraft loading, equipment assessments, and mission manning.

Experience in operating aircraft controls and equipment.

Experience in performing or supervising work procedures related to navigation, in-flight refueling, search and rescue operations, surveillance, or reconnaissance.

Experience in conducting or supervising crew member training on simple to complex mission-specific tasks.

Experience in developing plans and policies, monitoring operations, and advising commanders.

Experience in flight theory, air navigation, meteorology, flying directives, aircraft operating procedures, and mission tactics.

Experience in various piloting administrative tasks supporting Air National Guard aviation programs.

Experience in aviation unit quality control management programs.

Experience in unit flying, explosive, and ground safety programs in accordance with Department of the Air Force, National Guard Bureau, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration directives.

Experience in one or more specific missions such as air-to-air, air-to-ground, mortar-to-arm escort, surveillance, reconnaissance, surface attack, killer-scout, target illumination, or laser targeting.

Experience with traditional "stick and rudder" controls for piloting aircraft direction, altitude, and speed.

Experience using aircraft instrumentation and aircraft-mounted video cameras.

Experience with visual flight rules (VFR) and instrument flight rules (IFR) flying.

Experience in planning, scheduling, and conducting training flights through Federal Aviation Administration controlled national airspace.

Experience in completing safe and efficient mission accomplishments through the use of Operational Risk Management.

Experience performing aviation duties such as cancelling flying activities, diverting aircraft, dictating mission requirements, approving specific activities, coordinating for airport or airspace utilization with the FAA, or directing emergency actions.

Experience with applicable service flight publications and directives.

Experience with weaponry and combat or non-combat tactics for applicable military aircraft.

Experience with wartime and peacetime contingency plans and supplements for unit mobilizations, deployments, strange field operations, or troop missions and redeployments.

MILITARY GRADE: O2-O4. Selectees must be within these military grades prior to the effective date of placement.
