The Michigan Air National Guard is seeking a qualified Airplane Pilot for a Title 32 Excepted Service position at the 127th Wing, Operations Group, located in Michigan. This role is critical for piloting unit-equipped aircraft and supporting air operations programs.
About the Role
This position involves piloting advanced single or multi-engine military aircraft, including high-performance fighter aircraft, on tactical and non-tactical missions. Responsibilities include utilizing precision instrument flight techniques, navigating with air navigational aids, and operating within flight parameters in all weather conditions. The role also encompasses comprehensive flight preparation, including weather analysis, flight planning, pre-flight checks, and passenger/crew briefings. Post-flight activities involve maintaining logs, writing reports, and coordinating with maintenance personnel. Additionally, the incumbent may serve as the Air Commander's representative as Supervisor of Flying (SOF), ensuring safe and efficient mission accomplishment.

MICHIGAN AIR NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP REQUIRED. Applicants must be eligible for immediate military membership and employment in the Michigan Air National Guard.

Qualifications

Military grade requirement: O2-O4. Selectees must be within these grades prior to appointment.

Eligibility requires possession of Federal Aviation Administration pilot certificates or appropriate military certifications and ratings in main-frame military aircraft.

Must have at least two years of experience in civilian aviation programs, military aviation programs (active duty or reserve components), or within an Army National Guard Aviation Support facility or Air National Guard Wing/Operations Group.

Experience in piloting and instructing pilot skills in one or more of the following: Fixed-wing, rotary, or remotely piloted aircraft (RPA).

Experience in reading and applying mission tasks, intelligence reports, and weather information.

Experience in supervising and/or conducting mission planning, flight preparations, filing flight plans, and conducting crew briefings.

Experience in aircraft pre-flight inspections, aircraft loading, equipment assessments, and mission manning.

Experience in operating aircraft controls and equipment.

Experience performing or supervising work procedures related to navigation, in-flight refueling, search and rescue, surveillance, or reconnaissance.

Experience conducting or supervising crew member training on simple to complex mission-specific tasks.

Experience in developing plans and policies, monitoring operations, and advising commanders.

Experience in flight theory, air navigation, meteorology, flying directives, aircraft operating procedures, and mission tactics.

Experience in aviation unit quality control management programs.

Experience in unit flying, explosive, and ground safety programs in accordance with Department of the Air Force, National Guard Bureau, and OSHA directives.

Experience in applying directives, regulations, accident reports, safety data, and local operating conditions to determine unit safety program requirements.

Experience in flying operations and coordinating with appropriate agencies to ensure compliance with safety regulations.

Experience in one or more missions such as air-to-air, air-to-ground, surveillance, reconnaissance, surface attack, or laser targeting.

Experience in traditional "stick and rudder" controls for piloting aircraft, using aircraft instrumentation, and aircraft-mounted video cameras.

Experience in visual flight rules (VFR) and instrument flight rules (IFR) flying.

Experience in planning, scheduling, and conducting training flights through FAA-controlled airspace.

Experience in applying operational directives, training directives, instructions, standard operating procedures, and special instructions from the National Guard Bureau, U.S. Army, or U.S. Air Force.

Experience working independently to plan and perform work assignments.

Experience completing safe and efficient mission accomplishments through Operational Risk Management.

Experience performing aviation duties such as cancelling flying activities, diverting aircraft, dictating mission requirements, approving specific activities, coordinating airport/airspace utilization with FAA, or directing emergency actions.

Experience with weaponry and combat or non-combat tactics for applicable military aircraft.

Experience with wartime and peacetime contingency plans and supplements for unit mobilizations, deployments, and redeployments.
