About the Role
The Michigan Air National Guard is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Airplane Pilot for a Title 32 Excepted Service position located at the 127th Wing, Michigan Air National Guard. This role involves piloting unit-equipped aircraft for tactical and non-tactical missions, performing advanced instrument flight techniques, and undertaking administrative tasks to support the Air Operations program. The position requires Michigan Air National Guard membership.
Responsibilities

Piloting advanced single or multi-engine military aircraft, including high-performance fighter aircraft, on various missions using precision instrument flight techniques.

Executing normal flight procedures and standard maneuvers in all weather conditions, domestically and internationally.

Preparing for flights by obtaining weather information, planning routes, calculating flight times, and filing flight plans.

Conducting pre-flight checks, verifying aircraft readiness, and ensuring proper loading and weight distribution.

Briefing passengers and crew on flight details and emergency procedures.
-
Operating aircraft with a focus on safety, adhering to flight manuals, and coordinating with ground control.

Monitoring aircraft performance and flight progress, taking corrective actions as necessary.

Completing post-flight activities, including maintaining logs, writing reports, and coordinating with maintenance.

Serving as the Air Commander's representative when performing Supervisor of Flying (SOF) duties.
Requirements

Michigan Air National Guard membership is mandatory.

Must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the Michigan Air National Guard in the specified military grade.

Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.

Males born after December 31, 1959, must be registered for Selective Service.

Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.

Qualifications
-
Military grade requirement: O2-O4.

Eligibility is based on possessing Federal Aviation Administration pilot certificates or appropriate military certifications and ratings in the main-frame military aircraft of employment.

At least two years of experience in civilian aviation programs, military service aviation programs (active duty or reserve components), or within an Army National Guard Aviation Support facility or Air National Guard Wing/Operations Group.

Demonstrated experience in piloting and instructing pilot skills in one or more of the following: Fixed-wing, rotary, or remotely piloted aircraft (RPA).

Proficiency in reading and applying mission tasks, intelligence reports, and weather information.

Experience in supervising and/or conducting mission planning, mission preparations, filing flight plans, and conducting crew briefings.

Experience in aircraft preflight inspections, aircraft loading, equipment assessments, and mission manning.

Experience in operating aircraft controls and equipment.
-
Experience performing or supervising work procedures involved in navigation, in-flight refueling, search and rescue operations, surveillance, or reconnaissance.

Experience conducting or supervising crew member training on simple to complex mission-specific tasks.

Experience in developing plans and policies, monitoring operations, and advising commanders.

Proficiency in flight theory, air navigation, meteorology, flying directives, aircraft operating procedures, and mission tactics.

Experience in planning and preparing for missions, with at least two years of experience piloting or instructing others in piloting specific airframe/military aircraft.

Experience in various piloting administrative tasks supporting Air National Guard aviation programs.

Experience in aviation unit quality control management programs.

Experience in unit flying, explosive, and ground safety programs in accordance with Department of the Air Force, National Guard Bureau, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration directives.

Experience applying directives, regulations, accident reports, safety data, and local operating conditions to determine unit safety program requirements.

Experience in flying operations and coordinating with appropriate agencies to ensure compliance with all applicable safety regulations and programs.

Experience in one or more missions such as air-to-air, air-to-ground, mortar-to-arm escort, surveillance, reconnaissance, surface attack, killer-scout, target illumination, or laser targeting.

Proficiency with traditional "stick and rudder" controls for piloting aircraft direction, altitude, and speed.

Experience using aircraft instrumentation and aircraft-mounted video cameras.

Experience in visual flight rule (VFR) and instrument flight rule (IFR) flying.

Experience in planning, scheduling, and conducting training flights through Federal Aviation Administration controlled national airspace.

Experience applying operational directives, training directives, instructions, standard operating procedures, and special instructions from the National Guard Bureau, United States Army, or United States Air Force, and gaining commands.

Experience working independently to plan and perform work assignments.

Experience completing safe and efficient mission accomplishments through Operational Risk Management.

Experience performing aviation duties such as cancelling flying activities, diverting aircraft, dictating mission requirements, approving specific activities, coordinating for airport or airspace utilization with the FAA, or directing emergency actions.

Experience with applicable Army aviation regulations, policies, requirements and standards, skills and practices, and the application of instructional techniques to training other pilots.

Experience in conducting particular missions and flying specific main-frame aircraft in combat tactics, flying in mountainous terrain, performing tactical remote site evaluations, performing landings on remote sites, providing ground and flight training, and conducting night-vision operations or instructions.

Experience in standardization and evaluation programs, written ground examinations, emergency procedures, and aircrew performance standards in accordance with applicable directives and Federal Aviation Administration certification requirements.

Experience in reviewing and complying with applicable service flight publications and directives for accuracy and currency.

Experience with weaponry and combat or non-combat tactics for applicable military aircraft.

Experience with wartime and peacetime contingency plans and supplements used for unit mobilizations, deployments, strange field operations, or troop missions and redeployments.
Education
Eligibility requirements are based on the candidate's possession of Federal Aviation Administration pilot certificates or appropriate military certifications, military ratings in the main-frame military aircraft of employment, and the required competencies (knowledge, skills, and abilities).
