Airplane Pilot (MI 191st OSS)

The Michigan Air National Guard is seeking a skilled and experienced Airplane Pilot to join the MI 127 Wing, Operations Group at the 191st Operations Support Squadron (OSS) in Michigan. This Title 32 position requires active membership in the Michigan Air National Guard.

About the Role

As an Airplane Pilot, the incumbent's primary duty is to pilot a unit-equipped aircraft, performing tactical and non-tactical missions. Responsibilities extend to administrative tasks supporting the Air Operations program, including flight preparation, operation, post-flight activities, and serving as the Air Commander's representative when acting as Supervisor of Flying (SOF).

Requirements

• MICHIGAN AIR NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED.
• Must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the Michigan Air National Guard in the specified military grade.
• Males born after December 31, 1959, must be registered for Selective Service.
• Must pass a background investigation for federal employment suitability.
• May be required to successfully complete a trial period.
• Mandatory participation in direct deposit.
• Must possess a valid civilian driver's license.
• Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.

Qualifications

Military Grade

• O2-O4. Selectee(s) must be within these military grades prior to placement to avoid grade inversion.

General Experience

• Possession of Federal Aviation Administration pilot certificates OR appropriate military certifications and military ratings in the main-frame military aircraft of employment.

Specialized Experience (GS-2181-13 Equivalent)

• Minimum of two years of experience in civilian aviation programs, military aviation programs (active duty or reserve components), or within an Army National Guard Aviation Support facility or Air National Guard Wing/Operations Group.
• Experience piloting and instructing pilot skills in one or more of the following: Fixed-wing, rotary, or remotely piloted aircraft (RPA).
• Experience in reading and applying mission tasks, intelligence reports, and weather information.
• Experience in supervising and/or conducting mission planning, mission preparations, filing of flight plans, and conducting crew briefings.
• Experience in aircraft preflight inspections, aircraft loading, equipment assessments, and mission manning.
• Experience in operating aircraft controls and equipment.
• Experience in performing or supervising work procedures involved in navigation, in-flight refueling, search and rescue operations, surveillance, or reconnaissance.
• Experience in conducting or supervising crew member training on simple to complex mission-specific tasks.
• Experience in developing plans and policies, monitoring operations, and advising commanders.
• Experience in flight theory, air navigation, meteorology, flying directives, aircraft operating procedures, and mission tactics.
• Experience in aviation unit quality control management programs.
• Experience in unit flying, explosive, and ground safety programs.
• Experience in one or more missions such as air-to-air, air-to-ground, surveillance, reconnaissance, or surface attack.
• Experience in traditional "stick and rudder" controls, aircraft instrumentation, and aircraft-mounted video cameras.
• Experience in visual flight rules (VFR) and instrument flight rules (IFR) flying.
• Experience in planning, scheduling, and conducting training flights through Federal Aviation Administration controlled national airspace.
• Experience in completing safe and efficient mission accomplishments through Operational Risk Management.
• Experience performing aviation duties such as cancelling flying activities, diverting aircraft, dictating mission requirements, or directing emergency actions.
• Experience with standardization and evaluation programs, written ground examinations, emergency procedures, and aircrew performance standards.
• Experience with weaponry and combat or non-combat tactics for applicable military aircraft.
• Experience with wartime and peacetime contingency plans for unit mobilizations, deployments, or troop missions.

Education

• Must meet the general experience requirement by possessing FAA pilot certificates OR appropriate military certifications and ratings, along with required competencies.
• Transcripts or other documentation must be provided to support educational claims.
