Air National Guard Units | Pilot

The Michigan Air National Guard is seeking a qualified Airplane Pilot for a Title 32 Excepted Service position within the MI 127 Wing, Operations Group at the 191st OSS in Michigan. This role involves piloting advanced military aircraft, conducting various missions, and performing administrative duties to support the Air Operations program.

About the Role

This position is based at a unit level within an Air National Guard Aviation Wing. The primary duty is to pilot a unit-equipped aircraft, executing tactical and non-tactical missions using advanced flight techniques and navigation aids. Responsibilities extend to comprehensive flight preparation, including weather analysis, flight planning, and aircraft checks. Pilots will operate aircraft with a strong emphasis on safety, adhering to flight manuals and coordinating with ground control. Post-flight activities involve maintaining logs, writing reports, and liaising with maintenance personnel. Additionally, the role may involve serving as the Air Commander's representative as Supervisor of Flying (SOF), ensuring safe and efficient mission accomplishment.

Requirements

• MICHIGAN AIR NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED.
• Must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the Michigan Air National Guard in the specified military grade.
• Must be willing to wear the military uniform.
• Males born after December 31, 1959, must be registered for Selective Service.
• Must successfully complete a federal employment suitability background investigation.
• May be required to complete a trial period.
• Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
• Must possess a valid civilian driver's license.

Qualifications

• Eligibility requires possession of Federal Aviation Administration pilot certificates OR appropriate military certifications and military ratings in the main-frame military aircraft of employment.
• Must possess the required competencies (knowledge, skills, and abilities) for the role.
• Experience should demonstrate the ability to pilot and instruct pilot skills in one or more of the following: Fixed-wing, rotary, or remotely piloted aircraft (RPA).
• Experience in piloting and instructing pilot skills in a specified main-frame military aircraft.
• Experience in reading and applying mission tasks, intelligence reports, and weather information.
• Experience in supervising and/or conducting mission planning, mission preparations, filing of flight plans, and conducting crew briefings.
• Experience in aircraft preflight inspections, aircraft loading, equipment assessments, and mission manning.
• Experience in operating aircraft controls and equipment.
• Experience in performing or supervising work procedures involved in navigation, in-flight refueling, search and rescue operations, surveillance, or reconnaissance.
• Experience in conducting or supervising crew member training on simple to complex mission-specific tasks.
• Experience in developing plans and policies, monitoring operations, and advising commanders.
• Experience in flight theory, air navigation, meteorology, flying directives, aircraft operating procedures, and mission tactics.
• Experience in aviation unit quality control management programs.
• Experience in unit flying, explosive, and ground safety programs in accordance with Department of the Air Force, National Guard Bureau, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration directives.
• Experience in applying directives, regulations, accident reports, safety data, and local operating conditions to determine unit safety program requirements.
• Experience in flying operations and coordinating with appropriate agencies to ensure compliance with applicable safety regulations and programs.
• Experience in one or more specific mission types (e.g., air-to-air, air-to-ground, surveillance, reconnaissance).
• Experience in traditional "stick and rudder" type controls and using aircraft instrumentation and cameras.
• Experience in visual flight rules (VFR) and instrument flight rules (IFR) flying.
• Experience in planning, scheduling, and conducting training flights through Federal Aviation Administration-controlled national airspace.
• Experience in applying operational directives, training directives, and standard operating procedures.
• Experience in working independently and completing safe and efficient mission accomplishments through Operational Risk Management.
• Experience performing aviation duties such as cancelling flying activities, diverting aircraft, dictating mission requirements, and directing emergency actions.
• Experience in planning, scheduling, and conducting training flights through Federal Aviation Administration controlled national airspace.
• Experience in applying operational directives, training directives, instructions, standard operating procedures, and special instructions of National Guard Bureau, United States Army or United States Air Force, and gaining commands.
• Experience in working independently to plan and perform work assignments.
• Experience in completing safe and efficient mission accomplishments through the use of Operational Risk Management.
• Experience performing aviation duties such as, cancelling flying activities, diverting aircraft, dictating mission requirements, approving specific activities, coordinating for airport or airspace utilization with FAA, or directing emergency actions that involved unit support agencies.
• Experience in using applicable Army aviation regulations, policies, requirements and standards, skills and practices; and, the application of instructional techniques to the training of other pilots in the Army National Guard flying facilities.
• Experience in conducting particular missions and flying specific main-frame aircraft in combat tactics, flying in mountainous terrain, performing tactical remote site evaluations, performing landings on remote sites, providing ground and flight training, and conducting night-vision operations or instructions.
• Experience in standardization and evaluation programs, written ground examinations, emergency procedures, and aircrew performance standards in accordance with applicable directives and Federal Aviation Administration certification requirements.
• Experience in reviewing and complying with applicable service flight publications and directives for accuracy and currency.
• Experience on weaponry and combat or non-combat tactics for applicable military aircraft.
• Experience with wartime and peacetime contingency plans and supplements used for unit mobilizations, deployments, strange field operations, or troop missions and redeployments.
