About the Role

The Michigan Air National Guard is seeking a skilled Airplane Pilot to join the MI 127 Wing, Operations Group at the unit level. This Title 32, Excepted Service position involves piloting advanced military aircraft and performing administrative duties supporting the Air Operations program. The role is based in Michigan and requires active membership in the Michigan Air National Guard.

About the Role

• Pilot advanced single or multi-engine military airplanes and high-performance military fighter aircraft on tactical and non-tactical missions.
• Utilize advanced precision instrument flight techniques and air navigational aids.
• Execute flights within specified parameters in all weather conditions, including domestic and foreign travel.
• Conduct thorough flight preparations, including weather analysis, flight planning, and aircraft checks.
• Ensure proper briefing of passengers and crew on flight procedures and emergency protocols.
• Operate aircraft with a focus on safety, adhering to flight manuals and coordinating with ground units.
• Monitor aircraft performance and flight progress, taking corrective action as necessary.
• Perform post-flight activities, including maintaining logs, writing reports, and coordinating with maintenance personnel.
• Serve as the Air Commander's representative when performing Supervisor of Flying (SOF) duties.

Requirements

• MICHIGAN AIR NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP REQUIRED.
• Must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the Michigan Air National Guard in the specified military grade.
• Required to wear the military uniform.
• Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
• Must successfully complete a background investigation for federal employment suitability.
• May be required to complete a trial period.
• Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
• Must possess a valid civilian driver's license.

Qualifications

• Military Grade: O2-O4. Selectees must be within these grades prior to placement to avoid grade inversion.
• General Experience: Possession of Federal Aviation Administration pilot certificates OR appropriate military certifications, military ratings in the main-frame military aircraft of employment, and required competencies.
• Specialized Experience:
  • At least two years of experience in civilian aviation programs, military service aviation programs, Army National Guard Aviation Support facilities, or Air National Guard Wings/Operations Groups.
  • Experience piloting and instructing pilot skills in one or more of the following: Fixed-wing, rotary, or remotely piloted aircraft (RPA).
  • Experience training and instructing others in piloting specified main-frame military aircraft.
  • Experience reading and applying mission tasks, intelligence reports, and weather information.
  • Experience supervising and/or conducting mission planning, mission preparations, flight plan filing, and crew briefings.
  • Experience with aircraft preflight inspections, loading, equipment assessments, and mission manning.
  • Experience operating aircraft controls and equipment.
  • Experience performing or supervising work procedures involved in navigation, in-flight refueling, search and rescue operations, surveillance, or reconnaissance.
  • Experience conducting or supervising crew member training on mission-specific tasks.
  • Experience developing plans and policies, monitoring operations, and advising commanders.
  • Experience in flight theory, air navigation, meteorology, flying directives, aircraft operating procedures, and mission tactics.
  • Experience in aviation unit quality control management programs.
  • Experience in unit flying, explosive, and ground safety programs in accordance with Department of the Air Force, National Guard Bureau, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration directives.
  • Experience in applying directives, regulations, accident reports, safety data, and local operating conditions to determine unit safety program requirements.
  • Experience in one or more missions such as air-to-air, air-to-ground, mortar-to-arm escort, surveillance, reconnaissance, surface attack, killer-scout, target illumination, or laser targeting.
  • Experience with traditional "stick and rudder" controls for piloting aircraft direction, altitude, and speed.
  • Experience using aircraft instrumentation and aircraft-mounted video cameras.
  • Experience with visual flight rule and instrument flying.
  • Experience flying simulated combat and non-combat missions and terrain.
  • Experience planning, scheduling, and conducting training flights through Federal Aviation Administration controlled national airspace.
  • Experience applying operational directives, training directives, instructions, standard operating procedures, and special instructions of National Guard Bureau, United States Army or United States Air Force, and gaining commands.
  • Experience working independently to plan and perform work assignments.
  • Experience completing safe and efficient mission accomplishments through Operational Risk Management.
  • Experience performing aviation duties such as cancelling flying activities, diverting aircraft, dictating mission requirements, approving specific activities, coordinating airspace utilization, or directing emergency actions.
  • Experience with applicable Army aviation regulations, policies, requirements, standards, and instructional techniques for training other pilots.
  • Experience conducting specific missions and flying specific main-frame aircraft in combat tactics, flying in mountainous terrain, performing tactical remote site evaluations, performing remote site landings, providing ground and flight training, and conducting night-vision operations or instructions.
  • Experience with standardization and evaluation programs, written ground examinations, emergency procedures, and aircrew performance standards in accordance with applicable directives and Federal Aviation Administration certification requirements.
  • Experience reviewing and complying with applicable service flight publications and directives for accuracy and currency.
  • Experience with weaponry and combat or non-combat tactics for applicable military aircraft.
  • Experience with wartime and peacetime contingency plans and supplements for unit mobilizations, deployments, strange field operations, or troop missions and redeployments.
