Aviation professionals are sought for a Title 32 Excepted Service Officer position within the Air Operations program at an Airlift Support Detachment of the Air National Guard (ANG) located in Louisiana. This role involves piloting advanced, heavy, multi-engine military aircraft on non-tactical airlift missions, requiring proficiency in instrument flight and adherence to stringent safety protocols.
About the Role
The incumbent will pilot advanced military aircraft on airlift missions, transporting personnel domestically and internationally. Responsibilities include comprehensive flight preparation, safe operation of the aircraft, and post-flight activities such as maintaining logs and reports. The role also requires serving as the Supervisor of Flying (SOF), with authority to manage flying activities, divert aircraft, and direct emergency actions. Additionally, incumbents may rotate through administrative support functions including training and scheduling, planning, safety programs, and Inspector General duties.

Qualifications

Eligibility for Dual Status technician positions based on possession of FAA pilot certificates or appropriate military certifications and ratings in the main military aircraft of employment.

At least one (1) year of specialized experience at the GS-12 level; or at least thirty-six (36) months of experience in aircraft preflight inspections, aircraft loading, equipment assessments, and mission manning.

Experience operating aircraft controls and equipment.

Experience performing or supervising work procedures involved in navigation, in-flight refueling, search and rescue, surveillance, or reconnaissance.

Experience conducting or supervising crew member training on mission-specific tasks.

Experience developing plans and policies, monitoring operations, and advising commanders.

Experience in flight theory, air navigation, meteorology, flying directives, aircraft operating procedures, and mission tactics.

Experience planning and preparing for missions.

At least two years of experience piloting or instructing others in piloting specific airframe/military aircraft.

Experience in various piloting administrative tasks supporting Air National Guard aviation programs.

Experience in aviation unit quality control management programs.

Experience in unit flying, explosive, and ground safety programs in accordance with Department of the Air Force, National Guard Bureau, and OSHA directives.

Experience applying directives, regulations, accident reports, and safety data to determine unit safety program requirements.

Experience in flying operations and coordinating with appropriate agencies for safety compliance.

Experience in one or more missions such as air-to-air, air-to-ground, escort, surveillance, reconnaissance, surface attack, killer scout, target illumination, or laser targeting.

Experience with traditional "stick and rudder" controls for piloting aircraft.

Experience using aircraft instrumentation and mounted video cameras.

Experience with visual flight rules (VFR) and instrument flight rules (IFR) flying.

Experience flying simulated combat and non-combat missions and terrain.

Experience planning, scheduling, and conducting training flights within FAA-controlled airspace.
Education

An undergraduate degree from an accredited college/university is mandatory.

A Graduate Degree from an accredited civilian academic college or an equivalent professional military education school is optimum.

Must possess Federal Aviation Administration certifications awarded from accredited civilian aviation programs OR aviation certifications from accredited military aviation schools.
