Job Summary

The Air National Guard seeks experienced pilots for an excepted service position within its Air Operations program at a selected Airlift Support Detachment. This role involves piloting advanced, heavy, multi-engine military aircraft on non-tactical airlift missions, requiring sophisticated instrument flight techniques and a thorough understanding of aircraft systems. The position is located at unit level, flying advanced military airplanes.

About the Role

Incumbents will pilot advanced, heavy, multi-engine military aircraft, executing non-tactical airlift missions with precision instrument flight techniques. Responsibilities include comprehensive flight preparation, safe aircraft operation adhering to flight manuals, coordinating with ground units, and monitoring flight progress. Post-flight activities involve maintaining logs and submitting reports. The role also entails serving as the Air Commander's representative as Supervisor of Flying (SOF), with authority over flying activities, aircraft diversion, mission requirements, and emergency actions. Selected individuals may also rotate into administrative tasks within Air Operations support functions, including training and scheduling, planning, safety, and Inspector General duties.

Requirements

• National Guard membership is mandatory.
• Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must be registered for Selective Service.
• Federal employment suitability determined by a background investigation.
• May require successful completion of a probationary period.
• Must possess a documented record of successful completion of F-15 Initial Qualification Training (IQT).
• Must maintain an appropriate level of security clearance.
• Must be eligible for dual-status technician positions, possessing Federal Aviation Administration pilot certificates or appropriate military certifications and ratings.

Qualifications

• At least one year of specialized experience at the GS-12 level or thirty-six months of experience in aircraft preflight inspections, aircraft loading, equipment assessments, and mission manning.
• Experience operating aircraft controls and equipment.
• Experience performing or supervising work procedures in navigation, in-flight refueling, search and rescue, surveillance, or reconnaissance.
• Experience conducting or supervising crew member training.
• Experience in developing plans and policies, monitoring operations, and advising commanders.
• Experience in flight theory, air navigation, meteorology, flying directives, aircraft operating procedures, and mission tactics.
• At least two years of experience piloting or instructing in specific airframe/military aircraft.
• Experience in various piloting administrative tasks supporting Air National Guard aviation programs.
• Experience in aviation unit quality control management programs.
• Experience in unit flying, explosive, and ground safety programs, adhering to Department of the Air Force, National Guard Bureau, and OSHA directives.
• Experience applying directives, regulations, accident reports, and safety data to determine unit safety program requirements.
• Experience in flying operations and coordinating with agencies for compliance with safety regulations.
• Experience in specific missions such as air-to-air, air-to-ground, escort, surveillance, reconnaissance, surface attack, target illumination, or laser targeting.
• Experience with traditional "stick and rudder" controls for piloting.
• Experience using aircraft instrumentation and video cameras.
• Experience in visual flight rules (VFR) and instrument flight rules (IFR) flying.
• Experience flying simulated combat and non-combat missions and terrain.
• Experience in planning, scheduling, and conducting training flights in federally controlled airspace.

Education

• An undergraduate degree from an accredited college/university is mandatory.
• A Graduate Degree from an accredited civilian academic college or an equivalent professional military education school is optimum.
• Must have Federal Aviation Administration certifications awarded from accredited civilian aviation programs OR aviation certifications from accredited military aviation schools.
