Job Summary

The Air National Guard is seeking a qualified Officer to serve as a pilot within the Air Operations program at an Airlift Support Detachment in Louisiana. This role involves piloting advanced, heavy, multi-engine military aircraft in non-tactical airlift missions, requiring proficiency in precision instrument flight and extensive knowledge of aircraft systems. The position also entails preparing for and executing flights, performing post-flight activities, and potentially serving as Supervisor of Flying. Additionally, incumbents may rotate into administrative support functions within the Air Operations program, including training, planning, safety, and Inspector General duties.

About the Role

This position is located at a unit level within the Air Operations program at selected Airlift Support Detachments, Headquarters flying units in the Air National Guard (ANG). The pilot will operate advanced, heavy, multi-engine military aircraft on non-tactical airlift missions, utilizing precision instrument flight techniques and air navigational aids. Responsibilities include maintaining mission qualifications, preparing for flights by analyzing weather and planning routes, executing flights with utmost safety, and completing post-flight activities such as log maintenance and reporting. The role may also involve serving as the Air Commander's representative as Supervisor of Flying, with authority over flying activities, mission requirements, and emergency actions. Incumbents are subject to rotation into administrative tasks supporting the Air Operations program, encompassing training and scheduling, planning, safety, and Inspector General functions.

Requirements

• National Guard Membership is required.
• Males born after December 31, 1959, must be registered for Selective Service.
• Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
• May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
• Must possess a documented record of successful completion of F-15 Initial Qualification Training (IQT).
• Must maintain an appropriate level of security clearance.
• Must be an Officer.
• Incumbents will be entitled to all leave and insurance coverage as a permanent employee and coverage in the Federal Employee Retirement System (FERS)/Federal Employee Retirement System-Revised Annuity Employees (FERS-RAE)/Federal Employees Retirement System - Further Revised Annuity Employees - FERS (FRAE) RT.
• This is an indefinite appointment, not a permanent position.
• Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.

Qualifications

General Experience

• Eligibility requirements for Dual Status technician positions in this occupation, based on Federal Aviation Administration pilot certificates or appropriate military certifications and ratings, and required competencies.

Specialized Experience

• At least one (1) year of specialized experience at the GS-12 level; OR at least thirty-six (36) months of work experience in aircraft preflight inspections, aircraft loading, equipment assessments, and mission manning.
• Experience in operating aircraft controls and equipment.
• Experience in performing or supervising work procedures involved in navigation, in-flight refueling, search and rescue operations, surveillance, or reconnaissance.
• Experience in conducting or supervising crew member training on simple to complex mission-specific tasks.
• Experience in developing plans and policies, monitoring operations, and advising commanders.
• Experience in flight theory, air navigation, meteorology, flying directives, aircraft operating procedures, and mission tactics.
• Experience in planning and preparing for missions.
• At least two years of experience in piloting or instructing others in piloting specific airframe/military aircraft.
• Experience in various piloting administrative tasks performed in support of Air National Guard aviation programs.
• Experience in aviation unit quality control management programs.
• Experience in unit flying, explosive, and ground safety programs in accordance with Department of the Air Force, National Guard Bureau, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration directives.
• Experience in applying directives, regulations, accident reports, safety data, and local operating conditions to determine unit safety program requirements.
• Experience in flying operations and coordinating with appropriate agencies to ensure compliance with all applicable safety regulations and programs.
• Experience in one or more missions such as air-to-air; air-to-ground; mortar-to-arm escort; surveillance; reconnaissance; surface attack; killer scout; target illumination; or laser targeting.
• Experience in traditional "stick and rudder" type controls for piloting aircraft direction, altitude, and speed.
• Experience in using aircraft instrumentation and aircraft-mounted video cameras.
• Experience in Visual Flight Rule (VFR) type flying and instrument flying.
• Experience in flying simulated "real world" combat and non-combat missions and terrain.
• Experience in planning, scheduling, and conducting training flights through Federal Aviation Administration controlled national airspace.

Education

• Must possess an undergraduate degree from an accredited college/university.
• A Graduate Degree from an accredited civilian academic college or from an equivalent professional military education school is optimum.
• Must have Federal Aviation Administration certifications awarded from accredited civilian aviation programs OR must have aviation certifications from accredited military aviation schools.
• Transcripts and/or other documentation must be provided as proof to support educational claims.
