Summary

The Air National Guard is seeking a qualified Pilot to operate advanced, heavy, multi-engine military aircraft for non-tactical airlift missions. This Title 32 Excepted Service position is located at an Air Operations program unit within the Air National Guard at selected Airlift Support Detachments, Headquarters flying units. The role requires proficiency in precision instrument flight techniques and advanced aircraft systems knowledge, operating within all weather conditions for personnel and cargo transport.

About the Role

• Pilots heavy, multi-engine military aircraft on non-tactical airlift missions utilizing advanced precision instrument flight techniques and air navigational aids.
• Maintains comprehensive knowledge of aircraft systems, procedures, and mission qualifications under normal, instrument, and emergency conditions.
• Prepares for flights by analyzing weather, planning routes, calculating fuel requirements, and filing flight plans.
• Conducts pre-flight checks, ensuring proper aircraft loading, weight distribution, and maintenance status.
• Operates aircraft with a strong emphasis on safety, adhering to flight manuals and coordinating with ground units.
• Monitors aircraft performance and flight progress, taking corrective action as needed, including emergency procedures.
• Accomplishes post-flight activities, including maintaining logs, writing reports, and coordinating with maintenance.
• Serves as the Air Commander's representative when performing Supervisor of Flying (SOF) duties, responsible for the safe and efficient mission accomplishment of the unit.
• May rotate to perform administrative tasks in Air Operations program support functional areas including Training and Scheduling, Plans, Safety, and Inspector General duties.

Requirements

• National Guard Membership is required.
• Males born after December 31, 1959, must be registered for Selective Service.
• Must maintain an appropriate level of security clearance.
• Must have a documented record of successful completion of F-15 Initial Qualification Training (IQT).
• Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
• May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.

Qualifications

• Eligibility requirements for Dual Status technician positions, including Federal Aviation Administration pilot certificates or appropriate military certifications and ratings in the main frame military aircraft of employment.
• At least one year of specialized experience at the GS-12 level or thirty-six months of experience in aircraft preflight inspections, aircraft loading, equipment assessments, and mission manning.
• Experience operating aircraft controls and equipment.
• Experience performing or supervising work procedures in navigation, in-flight refueling, search and rescue, surveillance, or reconnaissance.
• Experience conducting or supervising crew member training on mission-specific tasks.
• Experience developing plans and policies, monitoring operations, and advising commanders.
• Experience in flight theory, air navigation, meteorology, flying directives, aircraft operating procedures, and mission tactics.
• Experience planning and preparing for missions.
• At least two years of experience piloting or instructing others in piloting specific air-frame/military aircraft.
• Experience in various piloting administrative tasks supporting Air National Guard aviation programs.
• Experience in aviation unit quality control management programs.
• Experience in unit flying, explosive, and ground safety programs in accordance with Department of the Air Force, National Guard Bureau, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration directives.
• Experience applying directives, regulations, accident reports, safety data, and local operating conditions to determine unit safety program requirements.
• Experience in flying operations and coordinating with appropriate agencies to ensure compliance with safety regulations.
• Experience in one or more missions such as air-to-air, air-to-ground, mortar-to-arm escort, surveillance, reconnaissance, surface attack, killer scout, target illumination, or laser targeting.
• Experience with traditional "stick and rudder" controls for piloting aircraft direction, altitude, and speed.
• Experience using aircraft instrumentation and aircraft-mounted video cameras.
• Experience with visual flight rule (VFR) and instrument flight rule (IFR) flying.
• Experience flying simulated "real world" combat and non-combat missions and terrain.
• Experience planning, scheduling, and conducting training flights through Federal Aviation Administration controlled national airspace.

Education

• An undergraduate degree from an accredited college/university is mandatory.
• A Graduate Degree from an accredited civilian academic college or an equivalent professional military education school is optimum.
• Possess Federal Aviation Administration certifications awarded from accredited civilian aviation programs OR aviation certifications from accredited military aviation schools.
