About the Role

The Kentucky National Guard is seeking a highly skilled Airplane Pilot - Title 32 to operate military aircraft on assigned missions from their KY 123 AW location. This GS-2181-13 position requires advanced precision instrument flight techniques and a commitment to operational safety and mission accomplishment.

Duties

As an Airplane Pilot, responsibilities include piloting aircraft in all weather conditions using advanced precision instrument flight techniques, maintaining thorough knowledge of aircraft systems and procedures, and ensuring mission qualifications are met. Pre-flight duties encompass reviewing weather, planning routes, verifying fuel and maintenance status, conducting preflight checks, briefing passengers and crew, and obtaining clearances. Post-flight activities involve maintaining aircraft logs and forms, writing flight reports, coordinating with maintenance, and performing post-flight checks. The role may also involve serving as Supervisor of Flying (SOF), designing and coordinating comprehensive aircrew training plans, implementing policies, establishing training goals, analyzing debriefings, and developing the unit flying schedule. Coordination with the Aircraft Maintenance Division, FAA, and other agencies is also a key function.

Maintain membership in the Kentucky National Guard.
Be assigned to a compatible military position.
Wear the military uniform.
Potentially require a pre-employment physical.
May be subject to furlough actions.
May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
Must obtain and maintain a favorable adjudication of a T3 or equivalent investigation.
Acceptance of a Federal position may terminate a military bonus.
Acceptance of a Federal position will terminate Tricare Reserve Select (TRS) eligibility.
Position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968.

Military grades O1 - O4 are considered.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

Possess an appropriate Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) pilot certificate OR have aviation certifications from accredited military aviation schools.
Must be C130J qualified.

Specialized Experience:

Candidates must possess at least 24 months of experience in the following areas:

Operating a fixed-wing military aircraft.
Mission planning and preparation.
Reviewing and analyzing mission tasking, intelligence, and weather information.
Filing flight plans and conducting crew briefings.
Aircraft preflight inspections, aircraft loading, and equipment assessments.
Conducting/supervising training of crew members in simple to complex mission-specific tasks.

Knowledge of flight theory, air navigation, meteorology, flying directives, mission tactics, and operating procedures is required.
