About the Role

The Kentucky National Guard is seeking a qualified Airplane Pilot - Title 32 (GS-2181-13) to join the KY 123 AW unit in Kentucky. This position involves piloting aircraft on assigned missions, ensuring precision flight techniques, and maintaining comprehensive knowledge of aircraft systems and procedures. The role also encompasses extensive flight preparation, post-flight activities, and contributing to the unit's operational readiness through training and scheduling coordination.

About the Employer

This is a National Guard Title 32 Excepted Service Position within the Kentucky National Guard.

Duties

• Pilot aircraft on assigned missions utilizing advanced precision instrument flight techniques.
• Execute normal flight procedures and standard maneuvers in all weather conditions.
• Maintain thorough knowledge of aircraft systems and procedures.
• Maintain mission qualifications in the assigned airplane.
• Prepare for flights, including reviewing weather, planning routes, verifying maintenance, performing preflight checks, and conducting crew briefs.
• Operate aircraft with the utmost safety.
• Complete post-flight activities such as maintaining logs, writing reports, and coordinating with maintenance.
• Serve as the Air Commander's representative when performing Supervisor of Flying (SOF) duties.
• Design and coordinate training plans and scenarios for aircrew technical training.
• Adopt and implement policies to ensure training accomplishment.
• Establish training goals and objectives for instrument flight and general aircraft operation.
• Analyze post-mission debriefings to ensure training event accomplishment.
• Plan, develop, and implement the unit flying schedule.
• Coordinate operational requirements with relevant divisions and agencies.
• Perform other assigned duties.

Requirements

• Must maintain membership in the Kentucky National Guard.
• Must be assigned to a compatible military position.
• Must be willing to wear the military uniform.
• Position may require a pre-employment physical.
• May be subject to furlough actions.
• May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
• Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
• Must obtain and maintain a favorable adjudication of a T3 or equivalent investigation.
• Acceptance of a Federal position may terminate a military bonus.
• Acceptance of a Federal position will terminate Tricare Reserve Select (TRS) eligibility.
• This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. Convicted individuals may not perform the duties of this position.

Qualifications

• Must possess an appropriate Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) pilot certificate OR have aviation certifications from accredited military aviation schools.
• Must be C130J qualified.
• Minimum of 24 months of specialized experience operating a fixed-wing military aircraft, including mission planning and preparation.
• Experience reviewing and analyzing mission tasking, intelligence, and weather information.
• Experience in filing flight plans and conducting crew briefings.
• Experience in aircraft preflight inspections, aircraft loading, and equipment assessments.
• Experience conducting/supervising training of crew members in simple to complex mission-specific tasks.
• Knowledge of flight theory, air navigation, meteorology, flying directives, mission tactics, and operating procedures is required.
