This National Guard Title 32 Excepted Service position is for an Airplane Pilot, GS-2181-13, with the KY 123 AW in Kentucky. The incumbent will pilot assigned aircraft on missions, ensuring operational safety and mission accomplishment while adhering to advanced instrument flight techniques and aircraft system knowledge.
About the Role

Pilot aircraft on assigned missions utilizing advanced precision instrument flight techniques.

Execute normal flight procedures and standard maneuvers in all weather conditions.

Maintain comprehensive knowledge of aircraft systems and procedures.

Ensure mission qualifications are current for the assigned airplane.

Prepare for flights by reviewing weather, planning routes, calculating fuel, verifying maintenance, conducting pre-flight checks, briefing passengers and crew, and obtaining clearances.

Operate the aircraft with the highest degree of safety.

Perform post-flight activities including logging flights, writing reports, coordinating with maintenance, and conducting post-flight checks.

Serve as the Air Commander's representative as Supervisor of Flying (SOF), responsible for safe and efficient unit mission accomplishment.

Design and coordinate comprehensive training plans and scenarios for aircrew technical training.

Implement policies to ensure completion of all required training.

Establish training goals and objectives for instrument flight and general operation of the unit airplane.

Analyze post-mission debriefings to ensure training event completion.

Plan, develop, and implement the unit flying schedule.

Coordinate operational requirements with the Aircraft Maintenance Division, FAA, and other agencies.

Perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements

Must maintain membership in the Kentucky National Guard.

Must be assigned to a compatible military position.

Must be prepared to wear the military uniform.

Must obtain and maintain a favorable adjudication of a T3 or equivalent investigation.

Acceptance of a Federal position may terminate a military bonus.

Acceptance of a Federal position will terminate Tricare Reserve Select (TRS) eligibility.

Position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968.
Qualifications

Must possess an appropriate Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) pilot certificate OR have aviation certifications from accredited military aviation schools.

Must be C130J qualified.

Must have at least 24 months of experience operating a fixed-wing military aircraft, including mission planning and preparation.

Experience reviewing and analyzing mission tasking, intelligence, and weather information.

Experience in filing flight plans and conducting crew briefings.

Experience in aircraft pre-flight inspections, aircraft loading, and equipment assessments.

Experience conducting/supervising training of crew members in simple to complex mission-specific tasks.

Knowledge of flight theory, air navigation, meteorology, flying directives, mission tactics, and operating procedures is required.
