Position Summary

The Air National Guard is seeking a qualified Airplane Pilot (GS-2181-13) to join the 148 OSS FT. This role involves piloting advanced, single or multi-engine military aircraft on tactical and non-tactical missions. The incumbent must maintain a thorough knowledge of aircraft systems and operational procedures under normal, instrument, and emergency conditions.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Execute precision instrument flight techniques and standard maneuvers across all weather conditions.
  • Perform comprehensive flight preparation, including weather analysis, route planning, fuel requirements, and preflight safety checks.
  • Coordinate with ground units and controlling activities to ensure operational safety.
  • Conduct post-flight activities, including logbook maintenance, flight reporting, and equipment coordination.
  • Serve as the Supervisor of Flying (SOF), acting as the Air Commander’s representative with the authority to direct mission requirements and emergency actions.
  • Perform rotational administrative tasks in functional areas such as Training and Scheduling, Operational Planning, and Safety Program Management.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • Military Membership: Must be or be eligible to become a member of the Minnesota Air National Guard in a compatible military position (Officer ranks 1st Lt/O2 to Lt Col/O5).
  • Education: A mandatory undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university is required. A graduate degree is preferred.
  • Certifications: Must hold Federal Aviation Administration certifications or aviation certifications from accredited military aviation schools.
  • Experience: Minimum of two years of working experience in civilian aviation programs, military service aviation programs, or Air National Guard Operations units. Must be experienced in piloting fixed-wing, rotary, or remotely piloted aircraft.
  • Training: Must have graduated from USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT).
  • Medical Standards: Must maintain the same medical standards required of USAF military pilots.
  • Suitability: Employment is subject to a federal background investigation to validate suitability for a security clearance and Department of Defense (DOD) IT network access.

Conditions of Employment

  • Membership in the Minnesota Air National Guard is required.
  • Must wear the official military uniform.
  • Males born after December 31, 1959, must be registered with the Selective Service.
  • Appointment is subject to a 2-year trial period.
  • Must successfully complete a pre-employment physical.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
