Airplane Pilot (Accelerated Hire) - GS-2181-13

Location: Air National Guard (ANG) Aviation Wing, Operations Group, CA 144 FW.

Position Summary: The primary purpose of this T32 Excepted Service position is to pilot unit-equipped (UE) aircraft while performing essential administrative tasks in support of the Air Operations program. This is an open-until-filled announcement, with applications reviewed every 30 days.

Position Status

This is a permanent, indefinite, or temporary position. Indefinite selectees may be eligible for non-competitive conversion to permanent status contingent upon funding and position availability. Temporary selectees may be extended for up to four years in accordance with CNG FPH 001.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Piloting unit-equipped (UE) aircraft.
  • Performing administrative support for the Air Operations program.
  • Developing plans and policies, monitoring operations, and advising commanders.
  • Supervising and training crew members in mission-specific tasks.
  • Executing mission planning, pre-flight inspections, and equipment assessments.
  • Reviewing intelligence, weather data, and mission tasking to file flight plans and conduct briefings.
  • Ensuring compliance with safety programs and flying directives.

Requirements and Conditions of Employment

  • Membership: California National Guard membership is mandatory. Selectees must maintain a compatible military unit, grade (O-1 through O-6), and job assignment.
  • Uniform: Candidates must wear the authorized military uniform and adhere to all grooming standards.
  • Security: Must maintain an appropriate level of security clearance.
  • Administrative: Participation in direct deposit is mandatory; male applicants born after 12/31/1959 must be registered with the Selective Service.

Qualifications

General Experience: Candidates must possess a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification from an accredited civilian program or an aviation certification from an accredited military aviation school, plus one year of on-the-job experience in the grade or rank immediately below the next higher level.

Specialized Experience: Candidates must demonstrate at least 36 months of specialized experience, including:

  • Operating specific main-frame military aircraft.
  • Navigational procedures, in-flight refueling, search and rescue, or reconnaissance.
  • Proficiency in flight theory, air navigation, meteorology, and mission tactics.
  • Implementing Department of Defense, National Guard Bureau, and OSHA safety regulations.

Education and Certification

Proof of FAA or accredited military aviation certification is required at the time of application. Unofficial transcripts and/or certificates must be provided; failure to do so will result in automatic disqualification. All education must be from institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Foreign education must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency by an accredited organization.

Additional Information

Recruitment/relocation incentives and Permanent Change of Station (PCS) costs may be authorized subject to funding, agency determination, and Joint Travel Regulation provisions. Acceptance of this position may impact eligibility for existing military bonuses, such as the Reenlistment/Extension Bonus or GI Bill-SR Kicker.
