Airplane Pilot (Title 32 Excepted Service)

Location: 148 OSS FT, Duluth, MN

Position Summary

The 148 OSS FT is seeking a qualified Airplane Pilot for an Air National Guard Title 32 Excepted Service position. The incumbent is responsible for piloting high-performance military fighter aircraft on tactical and non-tactical missions, maintaining mission qualifications, and ensuring safe operations in various environmental conditions.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate single or multi-engine military aircraft using advanced precision instrument flight techniques.
  • Conduct pre-flight planning, including weather analysis, route mapping, fuel requirements, and weight distribution checks.
  • Ensure the safety of the aircraft, crew, and passengers by adhering to flight manuals and coordinating with ground units.
  • Complete post-flight requirements, including log entries, flight reports, and coordination with maintenance personnel.
  • Serve as the Supervisor of Flying (SOF), acting as the Air Commander's representative with the authority to manage mission requirements and emergency actions.
  • Perform administrative rotation tasks, including training and scheduling coordination, operational planning for wartime/peacetime contingencies, and oversight of safety programs.

Qualifications and Education Requirements

  • Education: A mandatory undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university. A graduate degree is considered an asset.
  • Certification: Must possess Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certifications from accredited civilian programs OR aviation certifications from accredited military aviation schools.
  • Training: Applicants must have graduated from USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT).
  • Experience: Minimum of two years of working experience in civilian aviation programs, military aviation programs (active duty or reserve), Army National Guard Aviation Support facilities, or Air National Guard Wing/Operations groups.
  • Skills: Demonstrated proficiency in piloting fixed-wing, rotary, or remotely piloted aircraft.

Conditions of Employment

  • Membership in the Minnesota Air National Guard is strictly required.
  • Must maintain military medical standards equivalent to USAF military pilots.
  • Must be eligible for and assigned to a compatible military AFSC.
  • Selectees are required to wear the official military uniform.
  • Successful completion of a federal background investigation is required to determine suitability for employment and security clearance.
  • Males born after December 31, 1959, must be registered with the Selective Service.
  • Appointment is subject to a two-year trial period and potential probationary period.

Additional Information

This position is an Excepted Service role. Applicants must demonstrate the ability to establish effective professional working relationships and contribute to a cooperative, mission-oriented environment. Participation in direct deposit is mandatory. No Permanent Change of Station (PCS) funding is available for this role.
