Position Summary
This National Guard Title 32 Excepted Service position is located within the Air National Guard (ANG) Aviation Wing, Operations Group. The primary objective is to pilot unit-equipped (UE) aircraft while performing administrative duties in support of the Air Operations program. The incumbent serves as a representative of the Air Commander, including duties as a Supervisor of Flying (SOF), responsible for the safe and efficient execution of unit missions.
Key Duties and Responsibilities

Pilots advanced, single or multi-engine military aircraft on tactical and non-tactical missions using precision instrument flight techniques.

Maintains mission qualifications and thorough knowledge of aircraft systems under normal, instrument, and emergency conditions.

Executes comprehensive flight preparation, including weather analysis, route planning, fuel requirement calculations, weight and balance verification, and passenger/crew briefings.

Operates aircraft within established safety parameters, coordinating with ground units and controlling agencies.

Performs post-flight duties, including documentation of flight logs, mission reports, and coordination with maintenance personnel.

Acts as the Supervisor of Flying (SOF) with the authority to manage mission requirements, airspace utilization, and emergency response actions.

Rotates through administrative support areas, including Training and Scheduling, Operational Planning, Safety Program Management, and Inspector General support.
Mandatory Qualifications

Military Membership:
Must be a member of the National Guard or eligible for immediate membership and employment in the military grade listed.

Education:
A mandatory undergraduate degree from an accredited college/university is required. A graduate degree is preferred.

Aviation Training:
Graduation from USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT).

Experience:
Minimum of two years of specialized experience in civilian aviation programs, military service aviation programs, or Air National Guard Operations groups.

Certifications:
Possession of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) pilot certificates or appropriate military certifications/ratings in the mainframe military aircraft of employment.

Medical:
Must maintain the same medical standards as USAF military pilots.

Licensure:
Valid state driver’s license and ability to qualify for government motor vehicle operation.

Security Clearance:
Must be able to obtain and maintain the required security clearance for access to classified information.
Conditions of Employment

Must wear the prescribed military uniform.

Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.

Subject to work outside of normal duty hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

May be subject to a trial or probationary period of up to two years.

Required to travel by military or commercial air as necessary.

Males born after December 31, 1959, must be registered for Selective Service.

Federal employment is subject to a background investigation.
Competencies
Candidates must demonstrate advanced skills in air navigation, meteorology, flying directives, mission tactics, and operational risk management. Applicants should have proven experience in instructing pilot skills, conducting crew briefings, managing aircraft maintenance/service conditions, and implementing safety programs in accordance with Department of the Air Force, National Guard Bureau, and OSHA directives.
