Position Summary
The Air National Guard is seeking a qualified Airplane Pilot (GS-2181-13) for a Title 32 Excepted Service position. The incumbent will pilot advanced, single or multi-engine military aircraft, including high-performance fighter aircraft, across tactical and non-tactical missions. This role requires adherence to stringent flight parameters, precision instrument techniques, and deep technical knowledge of aircraft systems under normal and emergency conditions.
Key Duties and Responsibilities

Execute flight preparation, including weather analysis, route planning, fuel requirements, and pre-flight inspections.

Operate aircraft with a primary focus on safety, coordinating with ground units and adhering to manual parameters.

Complete post-flight requirements, including maintenance coordination and reporting.

Serve as Supervisor of Flying (SOF), acting as the Air Commander’s representative with the authority to manage mission requirements, divert aircraft, and direct emergency actions.

Participate in rotation-based administrative support in areas including Training and Scheduling, Operational Planning, and Safety Program Management.
Qualifications and Requirements

Military Membership:
Must maintain active membership in the Minnesota Air National Guard and be assigned to a compatible Air Force Specialty Code (AFSC).

Education:
A mandatory undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university. A graduate degree is considered an asset.

Training:
Graduation from USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT) is required.

Experience:
Minimum of two years of relevant aviation experience in civilian or military aviation programs. Candidates must demonstrate competency in fixed-wing, rotary, or remotely piloted aircraft.

Certifications:
Must hold Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certifications or equivalent military aviation certifications.

Medical:
Must maintain the physical and medical standards required for USAF military pilots.

Suitability:
Must successfully pass a federal background investigation to obtain required security clearance and network access.
Conditions of Employment

Candidates must be eligible for immediate military membership in the Minnesota Air National Guard.

Incumbents are required to wear the official military uniform.

Males born after December 31, 1959, must be registered with the Selective Service.

Employment is subject to a two-year trial period and may require a probationary period.

Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
