Position Overview

This is a National Guard Title 32 Excepted Service position for an Airplane Pilot (Position Description Number D0253P02) with the OK 138th Fighter Wing, Oklahoma Air National Guard. The primary purpose of this role is to pilot unit-equipped (UE) aircraft while performing administrative tasks to support the Air Operations program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Pilot advanced, high-performance military fighter aircraft on tactical and non-tactical missions using precision instrument flight techniques.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of aircraft systems, emergency procedures, and mission qualifications.
  • Manage flight preparation, including weather analysis, route planning, fuel requirements, and pre-flight inspections.
  • Ensure operational safety, coordinate with ground units, and perform corrective actions during flight.
  • Complete post-flight activities, including documentation, flight reports, and maintenance coordination.
  • Serve as the Supervisor of Flying (SOF), exercising authority to manage mission accomplishment, airspace utilization, and emergency responses.
  • Rotate through administrative functional areas, including Training and Scheduling, Operations Planning, Safety Program Management, and Inspector General duties.

Mandatory Requirements and Conditions of Employment

  • Must maintain active National Guard membership in a compatible military assignment.
  • Must wear the prescribed military uniform.
  • Military Grades: O-1 through O-4.
  • Must be a graduate of USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT).
  • Must maintain USAF military pilot medical standards.
  • Must possess a valid state driver’s license and qualify to operate government vehicles.
  • Must obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance; work may require access to classified information.
  • Males born after December 31, 1959, must be registered with the Selective Service.
  • May be subject to a trial or probationary period of up to two years.
  • Must be available for work outside normal duty hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Mandatory participation in direct deposit.

Qualifications

Candidates must possess a competent understanding of aviation principles and hold appropriate FAA pilot certificates or military certifications/ratings in the relevant mainframe aircraft. Specialized experience requires at least two years of experience in civilian or military aviation programs, including the Air National Guard or Operations Group environments.

Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in:

  • Instruction and training of other pilots in specified military aircraft.
  • Mission planning, crew briefing, and aircraft loading.
  • Application of flight theory, meteorology, and navigation.
  • Aviation quality control and safety program management in accordance with Air Force, NGB, and OSHA directives.
  • Operational Risk Management and tactical mission execution.

Education

An undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university is mandatory. A graduate degree from an accredited civilian institution or professional military education school is preferred.
