Airplane Pilot (C-130) – Wyoming Air National Guard

The Wyoming Air National Guard is seeking a qualified Airplane Pilot (Position Description PDD0253P02) for the 153d Operations Support Squadron. This is a Title 32 Dual Status Technician Excepted Service position. The successful candidate will serve as a pilot for the C-130 aircraft and provide essential administrative support to the Air Operations program.

Core Responsibilities

  • Pilot advanced multi-engine military aircraft on tactical and non-tactical missions using precision instrument flight techniques.
  • Conduct comprehensive flight planning, including weather analysis, route determination, fuel requirements, weight and balance verification, and preflight safety checks.
  • Ensure all crew and passengers are fully briefed on mission parameters and emergency procedures.
  • Maintain strict adherence to flight manuals, safety parameters, and communication protocols; execute corrective actions and emergency procedures when necessary.
  • Complete all post-flight administrative requirements, including flight logs, reports, and coordination with maintenance personnel.
  • Serve as the Air Commander’s representative in the capacity of Supervisor of Flying (SOF), ensuring mission efficiency and operational safety.

Mandatory Qualifications

  • Education: Undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Training: Graduation from USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT).
  • Certifications: Must possess Federal Aviation Administration pilot certificates or appropriate military certifications and ratings in the C-130H.
  • Military Requirement: Must possess AFSC 11M (C-130 Mobility Pilot). Must be eligible for membership in the Wyoming Air National Guard.
  • Experience: Minimum of 24 months of aviation experience (civilian or military) and at least 24 months of experience piloting or instructing in C-130 aircraft.
  • Licensing: Must possess a valid driver’s license.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance for access to classified information.
  • Must maintain medical standards equivalent to USAF military pilots.
  • May be required to work non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Must be willing to travel via military or commercial air.
  • Must successfully complete a two-year trial period if required.
  • Federal employment is subject to a successful background investigation.
  • Selected candidates must relocate at their own expense if necessary.
  • Acceptance of this position terminates certain military incentives, including SRIP, TRS, and enlistment/retention bonuses.

Area of Consideration

This position is open to current active-duty Air Force members, Air Force Reserves, and members of the Air National Guard. Candidates must be willing to join the Wyoming Air National Guard prior to appointment. Applicants must fall within the military grade range of O-2 (1st Lt) to O-5 (Lt Col).
