Position Summary
The 148 OSS FT is seeking a qualified Airplane Pilot (GS-2181-13) to operate advanced single or multi-engine high-performance military fighter aircraft. This role involves executing tactical and non-tactical missions, maintaining rigorous flight parameters, and ensuring the safety and efficiency of unit operations. The incumbent will serve as the Air Commander’s representative when performing duties as Supervisor of Flying (SOF) and may rotate through administrative functions, including training, scheduling, planning, and safety program management.
Core Duties and Responsibilities

Piloting high-performance military aircraft across diverse weather conditions and geographic routes.

Maintaining thorough knowledge of aircraft systems, emergency procedures, and mission qualifications.

Conducting comprehensive pre-flight planning, including weather analysis, route navigation, and crew/passenger briefings.

Ensuring operational safety by coordinating with ground units and adhering to flight manual parameters.

Performing post-flight activities, including documentation, logbook maintenance, and aircraft status coordination.

Executing Supervisor of Flying (SOF) authority to manage mission requirements, divert aircraft, and direct emergency actions.

Supporting program functional areas such as Training and Scheduling, Wartime/Peacetime Planning, and Safety Program Administration.
Qualifications and Requirements

Military Membership:
Must be or be eligible to become a member of the Minnesota Air National Guard.

Education:
A mandatory undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university. A graduate degree is considered optimal.

Certification:
Must possess Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certifications or aviation certifications from accredited military aviation schools.

Training:
Must have graduated from USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT).

Experience:
A minimum of two years of working experience in civilian aviation, military service aviation (active duty or reserve), or equivalent National Guard operations. Must demonstrate competency in fixed-wing, rotary, or remotely piloted aircraft (RPA).

Medical Standards:
Must maintain medical standards equivalent to USAF military pilots.

Military Grade:
Must hold an officer rank between 1st Lt/O2 and Lt Col/O5.
Conditions of Employment

Appointment is subject to a two-year trial period and may require a probationary period.

Must maintain a compatible military position and Air Force Specialty Code (AFSC).

Requirement to wear the military uniform.

Successful completion of a federal background investigation (suitability for security clearance, sensitivity level, and DOD IT network access).

For male applicants born after 31 December 1959, registration with the Selective Service System is mandatory.
