Airplane Pilot (Accelerated Hire) - GS-2181-13

The Air National Guard (ANG) Aviation Wing, Operations Group, currently has an opening for an Airplane Pilot (Accelerated Hire) located within the CA 144 FW. This is an open-until-filled announcement; applications will be reviewed every 30 days.

Position Summary

This is a T32 Excepted Service position that may be filled on a permanent, indefinite, or temporary basis. The primary responsibility of this role is to pilot unit-equipped (UE) aircraft while performing essential administrative tasks in support of the Air Operations program.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate unit-equipped (UE) airplanes.
  • Execute administrative duties to support air operations.
  • Manage mission planning, preparation, and analysis of mission tasking, intelligence, and weather data.
  • File flight plans and conduct crew briefings.
  • Perform aircraft preflight inspections, equipment assessments, and supervise aircraft loading.
  • Supervise and perform procedures for navigation, in-flight refueling, search and rescue, or surveillance/reconnaissance.
  • Develop plans, policies, and monitor operations while advising commanders.
  • Supervise crew training for mission-specific tasks.
  • Ensure compliance with flight theory, safety, and operational directives set by the Department of Defense, National Guard Bureau, and OSHA.

Qualifications and Requirements

General Experience: Applicants must hold a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification from an accredited civilian aviation program or an aviation certification from an accredited military aviation school, plus one year of on-the-job experience in the grade or comparable military rank immediately below the next higher level.

Specialized Experience (GS-13): Must possess at least 36 months of specialized experience in operating specific main-frame military aircraft.

Conditions of Employment

  • California National Guard Membership: Membership in the California National Guard is mandatory.
  • Military Compatibility: Selectees must maintain a compatible military unit, grade, and job assignment as required by current directives.
  • Uniform Standards: Must wear the appropriate military uniform and adhere to grooming standards.
  • Security Clearance: Must maintain the appropriate level of security clearance.
  • Direct Deposit: Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • Selective Service: Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must be registered with the Selective Service.

Education and Certification

Candidates must provide proof of FAA certification or military aviation certification at the time of application. Unofficial transcripts and certificates are required for verification. Only education from institutions accredited by the U.S. Department of Education will be accepted. Foreign education must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency.
