Job Summary

This is a National Guard Title 32 Excepted Service non-bargaining unit position for an Airplane Pilot (Position Description Number D0253P02) with the Montana Air National Guard, 120 OSS. This role involves operating advanced, single or multi-engine military aircraft, including high-performance fighter jets, to execute tactical and non-tactical missions.

Key Responsibilities

  • Operate aircraft using advanced precision instrument flight techniques while adhering to flight parameters and safety regulations.
  • Conduct comprehensive pre-flight planning, including weather analysis, route charting, fuel requirement calculations, and crew briefings.
  • Perform post-flight duties such as maintaining aircraft logs, submitting flight reports, and coordinating service conditions with maintenance personnel.
  • Serve as the Air Commander's representative in the capacity of Supervisor of Flying (SOF).
  • Participate in program support functional areas, including Training and Scheduling, Operational Planning, Safety Program management, and Inspector General support.
  • Ensure compliance with Air Force, National Guard, and OSHA directives while independently planning and performing assigned duties.

Candidate Requirements

Conditions of Employment

  • Must be a current member of the Montana Air National Guard or eligible for immediate membership prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the required security clearance for access to classified information.
  • Must maintain medical standards equivalent to USAF military pilots.
  • Required to wear the military uniform.
  • Must be AFSC qualified in 11M3C or able to qualify within six months of hire.
  • Males born after December 31, 1959, must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Must be available to start within six months of selection (for external applicants).
  • Subject to variable work hours, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and travel via military or commercial air.

Qualifications

  • Military Grade: O4/Maj – O5/Lt Col.
  • Education: Undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university (transcripts required).
  • Training: Graduation from USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT).
  • Certification: Must possess Federal Aviation Administration certifications from an accredited civilian program or aviation certifications from an accredited military aviation school.
  • Experience: Minimum of two years of specialized experience in civilian or military aviation programs, or Air National Guard/Army National Guard aviation support facilities.
  • Competencies: Must demonstrate extensive experience in pilot instruction, mission planning, aircraft maintenance coordination, navigation, flight safety programs, and the application of operational directives. Detailed documentation of these experiences is required in the application resume.
