Airplane Pilot (Title 32 Excepted Service)

Position Summary
The Air National Guard is seeking a qualified Airplane Pilot (GS-2181-13) for a Title 32 Excepted Service position. This role involves piloting advanced, high-performance military fighter aircraft on tactical and non-tactical missions. The incumbent must maintain mission qualifications, adhere to precise flight parameters, and possess a thorough knowledge of aircraft systems under normal and emergency conditions.
Key Duties and Responsibilities

Execute precision instrument flight techniques using advanced air navigational aids.

Conduct comprehensive flight planning, including weather analysis, route mapping, fuel requirements, and preflight aircraft verification.

Ensure the safety of all crew and passengers through rigorous adherence to flight manuals and coordinated ground communication.

Manage post-flight activities, including documentation of logs, forms, and maintenance reporting.

Serve as the Supervisor of Flying (SOF), acting as the Air Commander’s representative with the authority to oversee safe mission accomplishment, divert aircraft, and coordinate with the FAA.

Perform administrative rotations in functional areas including Training and Scheduling, Operational Planning, and Safety Program management.
Qualifications and Requirements

Military Membership:
Must be or be eligible to become a member of the Minnesota Air National Guard in a compatible military position. Must wear the military uniform.

Education:
A mandatory undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university is required. A graduate degree in a relevant field is preferred.

Experience:
Minimum of two years of work experience in civilian or military aviation programs. Candidates must demonstrate competence in piloting fixed-wing, rotary, or remotely piloted aircraft.

Certifications:
Possession of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certifications or aviation certifications from accredited military aviation schools.

Training:
Graduation from USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT) is required.

Medical Standards:
Must maintain the same medical standards as required for USAF military pilots.

Military Grade:
Must hold or be eligible for an Officer rank between 1st Lt/O2 and Lt Col/O5.
Conditions of Employment

Appointment is subject to a 2-year trial period.

Applicants must undergo a federal background investigation to determine suitability for employment and security clearance requirements.

Males born after December 31, 1959, must be registered with the Selective Service System.

Must maintain a compatible military AFSC throughout the duration of employment.

Ability to establish effective professional relationships within a cooperative working environment.
