Position Overview: Airplane Pilot (Accelerated Hire)

The Air National Guard (ANG) Aviation Wing, Operations Group, CA 144 FW, is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Airplane Pilot (GS-2181-13). This T32 Excepted Service role involves piloting unit-equipped (UE) aircraft while performing essential administrative tasks to support the Air Operations program. This is an open-until-filled announcement, with application reviews conducted every 30 days.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Pilot unit-equipped (UE) aircraft.
  • Perform administrative duties supporting Air Operations.
  • Execute mission planning, preparation, and analysis of mission tasking, intelligence, and weather data.
  • Conduct flight plan filings, crew briefings, preflight inspections, and equipment assessments.
  • Supervise or perform procedures related to navigation, in-flight refueling, search and rescue, and reconnaissance.
  • Train crew members in mission-specific tasks and advise commanders on operational policies.
  • Maintain compliance with safety programs, flying directives, and Department of Defense regulations.

Qualifications and Requirements

General Experience

Candidates must possess a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification from an accredited civilian program or an aviation certification from an accredited military aviation school, along with at least one year of on-the-job experience in the grade immediately below the next higher level.

Specialized Experience (GS-2181-13)

Applicants must demonstrate at least 36 months of specialized experience in operating a specific main-frame military aircraft. Candidates will be evaluated on competencies in Operation and Control, Planning and Evaluating, Safety and Security, and Education and Training Program Administration.

Conditions of Employment

  • Membership Requirement: Must be a member of the California National Guard.
  • Military Compatibility: Must maintain a compatible military unit, grade (O-1 through O-6), and job assignment as required by directives.
  • Uniform and Grooming: Must wear the required military uniform and adhere to official grooming standards.
  • Security Clearance: Must maintain the appropriate level of security clearance.
  • Financial Requirements: Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • Selective Service: Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must be registered with the Selective Service System.

Education and Documentation

Applicants must submit unofficial transcripts and/or certificates at the time of application to verify educational or certification requirements. Only education from institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education is accepted. Foreign education must be accompanied by a professional evaluation deeming it equivalent to a U.S. accredited program.
