Position Overview

This is a National Guard Title 32 Excepted Service position for an Airplane Pilot (Position Description Number D0253P02) with the OK 138th Fighter Wing, Oklahoma Air National Guard. The primary purpose of this role is to pilot unit-equipped (UE) aircraft while performing administrative tasks to support the Air Operations program.

Key Responsibilities

  • Pilot high-performance military fighter aircraft on tactical and non-tactical missions using advanced precision instrument flight techniques.
  • Execute flight procedures and maneuvers within established parameters under all weather conditions.
  • Conduct comprehensive flight planning, including weather analysis, route mapping, fuel requirements, and aircraft preflight verification.
  • Ensure safe aircraft operation, including communication with ground control and corrective action during emergencies.
  • Maintain accurate flight logs, reports, and post-flight documentation.
  • Serve as the Supervisor of Flying (SOF), representing the Air Commander to ensure safe mission accomplishment with the authority to manage airspace and divert aircraft.
  • Rotate through administrative support areas, including Training and Scheduling, Operational Planning, Safety Program management, and Inspector General support.

Qualifications

Mandatory Requirements

  • Must be a member of the National Guard or eligible for immediate membership.
  • Military Grades: O-1 through O-4.
  • Graduation from USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT).
  • Undergraduate degree from an accredited college/university.
  • Possession of Federal Aviation Administration pilot certificates OR appropriate military certifications/ratings.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the required security clearance.
  • Must maintain medical standards equivalent to USAF military pilots.
  • Valid state driver’s license.

Specialized Experience

Candidates must possess at least two years of experience in civilian aviation programs, military service aviation, or Air National Guard Operations Groups. Applicants must demonstrate proficiency in piloting and instructing others in specific military main-frame aircraft. Required competencies include:

  • Advanced knowledge of flight theory, meteorology, air navigation, and mission tactics.
  • Experience in mission planning, crew briefings, and aircraft loading.
  • Competence in unit safety programs (flying, explosive, and ground safety) and quality control management.
  • Expertise in combat and non-combat mission execution, including instrumentation, night-vision operations, and tactical maneuvering.
  • Ability to apply operational directives, standard operating procedures, and National Guard Bureau regulations.

Conditions of Employment

  • This position requires a compatible military assignment within the Oklahoma Air National Guard.
  • Selectees are required to wear the military uniform.
  • Males born after December 31, 1959, must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Subject to federal background investigations and a potential two-year probationary period.
  • Mandatory participation in direct deposit.
  • Travel by military or commercial air may be required.
  • Work schedule may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
