Position Summary
The 148 OSS FT is seeking a qualified Airplane Pilot (GS-2181-13) to perform advanced, single or multi-engine military aircraft operations, including high-performance fighter aircraft. The incumbent is responsible for executing tactical and non-tactical missions using precision instrument flight techniques, maintaining aircraft system proficiency under various conditions, and ensuring the safety of all flight operations. This position includes responsibilities as a Supervisor of Flying (SOF) and potential rotation into administrative functions, including training and scheduling, mission planning, and safety program management.
Key Duties and Responsibilities

Operate advanced military aircraft within flight parameters, utilizing precision instrument flight techniques and navigation aids.

Execute comprehensive pre-flight planning, including weather analysis, route mapping, fuel requirements, and safety briefings.

Ensure safe operation of the aircraft through diligent monitoring of systems, communication with ground control, and execution of emergency procedures.

Conduct post-flight activities, including maintenance coordination, logbook documentation, and flight reporting.

Serve as the Air Commander’s representative when performing as the Supervisor of Flying (SOF), with authority to manage mission requirements, airspace utilization, and emergency actions.

Support functional areas including training and scheduling, operational planning for wartime and peacetime contingencies, and the administration of flying and ground safety programs.
Requirements and Qualifications

Membership:
Must be a member of the Minnesota Air National Guard or be eligible for immediate membership and employment.

Military Compatibility:
Must be assigned to a compatible military position and maintain satisfactory membership in the Minnesota Air National Guard. Selected candidates must wear the military uniform.

Education:
A mandatory undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university is required. A graduate degree is considered optimal.

Aviation Credentials:
Must possess Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certifications from accredited civilian programs OR aviation certifications from accredited military aviation schools.

Training:
Applicants must have graduated from USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT).

Experience:
Must possess at least two years of working experience in civilian aviation, military aviation (active duty or reserve), Army National Guard Aviation Support, or Air National Guard Wing/Operations Group. Experience must demonstrate competency in fixed-wing, rotary, or remotely piloted aircraft.

Medical Standards:
Must maintain the same medical standards as USAF military pilots.

Military Grade:
Open to Officers ranging from 1st Lt (O2) to Lt Col (O5).

Suitability:
Employment is subject to a federal background investigation, including checks on criminal history, employment, education, and fiscal responsibility, to determine security clearance and DOD IT network access suitability.
