Position Overview

The Air National Guard (ANG) Aviation Wing, Operations Group, is currently seeking an Airplane Pilot (Accelerated Hire) for the CA 144 FW. This is a T32 excepted service position categorized as permanent, indefinite, or temporary. This is an open-until-filled announcement, with application reviews conducted every 30 days.

Duties and Responsibilities

The primary purpose of the GS-2181-13 Airplane Pilot is to pilot unit-equipped (UE) aircraft. In addition to core flight operations, the incumbent will perform administrative tasks to support the Air Operations program. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Operating specific main-frame military aircraft.
Executing mission planning and preparation, including reviewing mission tasking, intelligence, and meteorological data.
Filing flight plans and conducting crew briefings.
Performing preflight inspections, aircraft loading, and equipment assessments.
Managing or supervising navigation, in-flight refueling, search and rescue, and reconnaissance operations.
Developing plans, policies, and advising commanders on operations.
Monitoring compliance with flying directives, mission tactics, and safety programs established by the Department of Defense and OSHA.

Requirements and Conditions of Employment

California National Guard Membership: Membership is mandatory. The selectee must maintain a compatible military unit, grade (O-1 through O-6), and job assignment.
Uniform and Grooming: Must wear the required military uniform and adhere to official grooming standards.
Security Clearance: Must maintain the appropriate level of security clearance.
Administrative Requirements: Participation in direct deposit is mandatory. Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must be registered with the Selective Service.

Qualifications

Candidates must possess a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification from an accredited civilian program or an aviation certification from an accredited military aviation school, plus one year of on-the-job experience in the grade immediately below the next higher level. Specialized experience (at least 36 months) in operating specific main-frame military aircraft is required.

Education and Certification

Applicants must provide copies of transcripts (unofficial) and/or certificates at the time of application. Foreign education must be evaluated by a private organization specializing in interpretation of foreign education programs to ensure equivalency to U.S. standards. Only institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education are accepted.
