Position Overview

The Air National Guard (ANG) Aviation Wing, Operations Group, is currently seeking an Airplane Pilot (Accelerated Hire) for the CA 144 FW. This is a T32 excepted service position categorized as permanent, indefinite, or temporary. This is an open-until-filled announcement, with application reviews conducted every 30 days.

Duties and Responsibilities

The primary purpose of the GS-2181-13 Airplane Pilot is to pilot unit-equipped (UE) aircraft. In addition to core flight operations, the incumbent will perform administrative tasks to support the Air Operations program. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Operating specific main-frame military aircraft.
  • Executing mission planning and preparation, including reviewing mission tasking, intelligence, and meteorological data.
  • Filing flight plans and conducting crew briefings.
  • Performing preflight inspections, aircraft loading, and equipment assessments.
  • Managing or supervising navigation, in-flight refueling, search and rescue, and reconnaissance operations.
  • Developing plans, policies, and advising commanders on operations.
  • Monitoring compliance with flying directives, mission tactics, and safety programs established by the Department of Defense and OSHA.

Requirements and Conditions of Employment

  • California National Guard Membership: Membership is mandatory. The selectee must maintain a compatible military unit, grade (O-1 through O-6), and job assignment.
  • Uniform and Grooming: Must wear the required military uniform and adhere to official grooming standards.
  • Security Clearance: Must maintain the appropriate level of security clearance.
  • Administrative Requirements: Participation in direct deposit is mandatory. Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must be registered with the Selective Service.

Qualifications

Candidates must possess a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certification from an accredited civilian program or an aviation certification from an accredited military aviation school, plus one year of on-the-job experience in the grade immediately below the next higher level. Specialized experience (at least 36 months) in operating specific main-frame military aircraft is required.

Education and Certification

Applicants must provide copies of transcripts (unofficial) and/or certificates at the time of application. Foreign education must be evaluated by a private organization specializing in interpretation of foreign education programs to ensure equivalency to U.S. standards. Only institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education are accepted.

Additional Information
