Position Overview
This is a National Guard Title 32 Excepted Service non-bargaining unit position for an Airplane Pilot (Position Description Number D0253P02) within the Montana Air National Guard, 120 OSS.
Duties and Responsibilities
The selected pilot will operate advanced, single or multi-engine military aircraft, including high-performance fighter aircraft, on tactical and non-tactical missions using precision instrument flight techniques. Key responsibilities include:

Flight Operations:
Executing normal flight procedures, standard maneuvers, and all-weather point-to-point navigation while maintaining comprehensive knowledge of aircraft systems under normal and emergency conditions.

Mission Planning:
Securing weather data, planning routes, determining fuel requirements, verifying aircraft readiness, performing preflight checks, and briefing crew and passengers.

Safety and Coordination:
Adhering to flight manual parameters, coordinating with ground units, and performing post-flight administrative duties, including logging and reporting. Serving as the Supervisor of Flying (SOF) to ensure safe and efficient mission accomplishment.

Program Support:
Rotating into administrative functions including Training and Scheduling, Operational Planning, Safety Program management, and Inspector General support duties.
Qualifications and Requirements
Military Grades:
O4/Maj - O5/Lt Col
Education:
Must possess an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university. Transcripts must be submitted with the application.
Certifications:
Applicants must hold FAA certifications from an accredited civilian program or aviation certifications from an accredited military aviation school. Certifications must be submitted with the application.
Technical Qualifications:

Must have graduated from USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT).

Must be AFSC qualified in 11M3C or capable of qualifying within six months of hire.

Must maintain current USAF military pilot medical standards.

Requires at least two years of specialized experience in civilian or military aviation programs, including proficiency in piloting and instructing on specific airframes.
Conditions of Employment

National Guard membership is mandatory. Candidates must be eligible for membership in the Montana Air National Guard prior to the effective date of placement.

Must be able to obtain and maintain the required security clearance for access to classified information.

Selectee is required to wear the military uniform.

Must meet federal employment suitability requirements, including background investigation.

Mandatory participation in direct deposit.

May be required to travel by military or commercial air.

Work may require schedules outside of normal duty hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Males born after December 31, 1959, must be registered for Selective Service.

External applicants must be available to commence work within six months of selection.
