Position Overview

This is a National Guard Title 32 Excepted Service position for an Airplane Pilot (Position Description Number D0253P02) with the OK 138th Fighter Wing, Oklahoma Air National Guard. The primary purpose of this role is to pilot unit-equipped (UE) aircraft while providing administrative support to the Air Operations program.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Pilot advanced, single or multi-engine military fighter aircraft on tactical and non-tactical missions using precision instrument flight techniques.
  • Maintain mission qualifications and thorough knowledge of aircraft systems under normal, instrument, and emergency conditions.
  • Execute mission preparation, including weather analysis, flight planning, fuel calculations, pre-flight inspections, and crew briefings.
  • Operate aircraft with an emphasis on safety, ensuring adherence to flight manuals, communication protocols, and mission parameters.
  • Complete post-flight requirements, including flight reports, aircraft logs, and maintenance coordination.
  • Serve as Supervisor of Flying (SOF), representing the Air Commander with authority to manage mission requirements, airspace utilization, and emergency actions.
  • Perform administrative functional support in areas including Training and Scheduling, Mission Planning, Safety Programs, and Inspector General duties as required.

Candidate Qualifications

Mandatory Requirements

  • Current membership in the National Guard is required.
  • Must hold a compatible military assignment in the Oklahoma Air National Guard.
  • Must have graduated from USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT).
  • Must maintain the same medical standards as USAF military pilots.
  • Must hold a valid state driver’s license and qualify to operate government motor vehicles.
  • Possess an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Hold FAA pilot certifications or appropriate military aviation certifications.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.
  • Military rank eligibility: O-1 through O-4.

Specialized Experience

Candidates must possess at least two years of specialized experience in civilian or military aviation programs. This experience must demonstrate proficiency in pilot instruction, mission planning, aircraft operation, safety program management, and the application of operational directives as established by the National Guard Bureau and the Department of the Air Force.

Conditions of Employment

  • Selectee must wear the prescribed military uniform.
  • Males born after December 31, 1959, must be registered with the Selective Service.
  • Employment is subject to a federal background investigation and a potential trial or probationary period of up to two years.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • Must be willing to travel via military or commercial air.
  • Duty hours may include evenings, weekends, and holidays.
