Position Summary
This is an Air National Guard Title 32 Excepted Service position. The incumbent serves as a pilot for advanced, single or multi-engine military aircraft, executing tactical and non-tactical missions using precision instrument flight techniques. The pilot ensures the safe operation of the aircraft under all weather conditions while maintaining rigorous knowledge of aircraft systems and emergency procedures.
Key Duties and Responsibilities

Execute mission-assigned flight procedures, including navigation, pre-flight checks, weight and balance verification, and passenger/crew briefings.

Maintain operational safety by adhering to flight manuals, coordinating with ground control, and performing post-flight documentation and reporting.

Serve as Supervisor of Flying (SOF) when assigned, acting as the Air Commander’s representative with the authority to oversee mission safety, divert aircraft, and coordinate with the FAA.

Participate in administrative rotation across functional areas, including Training and Scheduling, Operational Planning, and Safety Program management.

Develop and implement unit training plans, wartime/contingency planning, and comprehensive safety programs in compliance with OSHA and Air Force directives.
Qualifications

Education:
An undergraduate degree from an accredited institution is mandatory. A graduate degree is preferred.

Experience:
Candidates must possess at least two years of professional experience in civilian or military aviation programs. Candidates must demonstrate competence in piloting fixed-wing, rotary, or remotely piloted aircraft.

Certifications:
Must hold FAA certifications or equivalent certifications from accredited military aviation schools.

Training:
Graduation from USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT) is required.

Military Compatibility:
Must be or be eligible to become a member of the Minnesota Air National Guard in an officer rank between 1st Lt (O2) and Lt Col (O5).
Conditions of Employment

Must maintain active membership in the Minnesota Air National Guard and wear the military uniform.

Must successfully complete a two-year trial period.

Must maintain the same medical standards as USAF military pilots.

Must be eligible for and maintain a federal security clearance and meet suitability requirements determined by a background investigation, including criminal, employment, and fiscal history.

Males born after December 31, 1959, must be registered with the Selective Service.

Must possess the ability to establish effective professional working relationships in a cooperative environment.
Additional Information
This position is subject to the requirements of the Air National Guard. Failure to obtain or maintain a compatible Air Force Specialty Code (AFSC) may result in termination. No Permanent Change of Station (PCS) funding is available. Employment is contingent upon meeting all military and federal suitability criteria.
