Job Summary

This is a National Guard Title 32 excepted service, non-bargaining unit position for an Airplane Pilot (Position Description Number D0253P02) with the Montana Air National Guard, 120 OSS. The incumbent pilots advanced, single or multi-engine, high-performance military fighter aircraft on tactical and non-tactical missions.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Operate advanced military aircraft using precision instrument flight techniques, ensuring adherence to flight parameters and safety regulations.
  • Conduct comprehensive pre-flight planning, including weather analysis, route mapping, fuel requirements, weight distribution, and crew briefings.
  • Execute post-flight activities, including maintaining aircraft logs, flight reports, and coordinating service conditions with maintenance personnel.
  • Serve as the Supervisor of Flying (SOF), representing the Air Commander to ensure safe and efficient mission accomplishment.
  • Perform administrative functions within the Air Operations program, including training and scheduling, mission planning, safety program management, and Inspector General support.
  • Independently plan and perform work assignments, ensuring compliance with directives from the National Guard Bureau and the United States Air Force.

Required Qualifications

  • Military Membership: Must be a member of the Montana Air National Guard or eligible for immediate membership and military service in the grade of O4/Maj - O5/Lt Col.
  • Education: Must hold an undergraduate degree from an accredited college or university (transcripts required).
  • Flight Training: Graduation from USAF or USN Undergraduate Flying Training (UFT).
  • Certification: Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) certifications from an accredited civilian program OR aviation certifications from an accredited military aviation school.
  • Technical Qualification: Must be AFSC qualified in 11M3C or able to qualify within six months of hire.
  • Medical: Must maintain the medical standards required for USAF military pilots.
  • Experience: Minimum of two years of specialized experience in aviation programs (civilian or military), including piloting, instructing, mission planning, and safety management. Applicants must provide detailed documentation of experience in flight theory, navigation, meteorology, and specific aircraft operations.

Conditions of Employment

  • Must wear the military uniform.
  • Must obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance for the position.
  • Males born after December 31, 1959, must be registered with the Selective Service.
  • Must successfully complete a background investigation and potential probationary period.
  • Mandatory participation in direct deposit.
  • Ability to work irregular hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, and ability to travel as required.
  • External applicants must be available to commence duties within six months of selection.
